Pascal's Concept Of Christianity., Audrey Vivien Bull May 1973

Pascal's Concept Of Christianity., Audrey Vivien Bull

Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs

This thesis explains Pascal's concept of Christianity, showing how it developed during the course of his life until it attained the conviction expressed in the Pensees.

It starts with the events of his life, taken from the accounts of two people related closely to him. His style is then analyzed, showing how it was influenced by the quarrel of the Jansenist and Jesuit sects to produce the polemic Lettres Provinciales and the reasons for the change of style before the Pensees. The importance of his style is stressed, because he fixed the French language and is perhaps the greatest stylist …

Logging In The Upper Cumberland River Valley: A Folk Industry, Steven Schulman May 1973

Logging In The Upper Cumberland River Valley: A Folk Industry, Steven Schulman

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of this study is to examine the logging industry found along, the upper Cumberland River from the 1870s to the 1930s. Because the industry was very much a part of the economic lifeblood of the people of the region, the study will focus upon the loggers and raftsmen who worked with the timber. Any attempt to describe the lumber business alone would be futile due to the nature of the industry. It is impossible to separate the logging industry of the Cumberland from the general folk life of the area, because of the involvement of the people in …

El jardín de Falerina, the producto of a joint effort by Frarncisco de Rojas Zorrilla, Antonio Coello, and Pedro Calderón de la Barca, represents a type of play that a high degree of popularity during the seventeenth century, the comedia de espectáculo y fantasia, derived, in part, from the romances of chivalry, and partly from the Italian epic poems, Orlando Furioso, by Lodovico Ariosto, and Orlando Innamorato, by Mateo Maria Boiardo.

BúSqueda De La Identidad En La ExpresióN LíRica De Los PaíSes De Habla EspañOla, María Esther Serra Carossino

Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs

This essay is based on the premise that there exists a general orderly pattern of innermost values constantly present throughout time and events.

The atomic world had the same architectural structure as the Universe, but the molecular interactions form the different substances which have properties characteristic of their own. Under a similar pattern, the writer found a universal harmony in the Spanish lyrical expression, which shows itself in valid and fruitful relationships. She searched for similarities in the poetic world by analyzing what other writers have taken from tradition and then developed into an entirely new production, resulting from the …
