The School of Practical Art was established in 1912 by Roy Atherton Davidson. For twenty-nine years it has regularly and consistently trained its students to engage in remunerative work in those branches of art which are necessary to business and industry. The Designer was a student newspaper published in 1942. Three issues remain today. The first two issues are written by typewriter on loose sheaves of paper. The issue of March 1, 1942 included information about club activities, art exhibitions, and student council notes. There were some speakers and activities that were related to World War II and the home front. This was the first issue so there was a plea for student participation.

Scope was a student publication that discussed in its single issue the formation and plans of a new student organization. While the publication includes indications that it was intended to be published regularly, no other issues exist. This issue of February 21, 1941 had a brief article about the Trek Club at RISD and some of it's activities at the school farm in Barrington. A Winter Carnival took place and more activities were in the planning stages for the spring.

Dust was an experimental student publication printed in 1934 by two Brown students under the direction of a local printing company. It featured contributions from Brown, Pembroke, and RISD students. The May 1934 issue features work from the following RISD students: a wood engraving by John Goss, a lineoleum cut by Lawrence Hoffman, a poem by Jessie Cole, a linoleum cut by Adelaide Koch, and a linoleum cut by Lisette Micoleau.

This "Outline of Interior Decoration" is termed "Pictorial" because as much of its value lies in its pictures as in its text. They should visually reiterate the ideas which are exemplified by the text. It is called an "Outline" because it is necessarily limited in scope. Although emphasizing only the major points of the subject, it is however intended to provide a general study of Interior Decoration for the ordinary reader or the student. It is felt that for both this Thesis will offer an artistically sound and practical guide for the decoration of the simple, small house.
