On September 27, 1977, an archaeological survey was conducted at the request of Mr. James T. Nordlund of Richardson, Nordlund, and Dunlap, Inc. of Ludington, Michigan. The survey was intended to locate cultural resources in a proposed sewage treatment plant site near the village of New Era, Oceana County, Michigan.

An archaeological survey was conducted on September 22, 1977, at the request of Mr. Richard Kraft of Kraft Engineering, Inc., Flint, Michigan. A proposed sewage treatment plant site was surveyed in an attempt to locate any cultural resources in the area prior to construction.

On September 22, 1977, an archaeological survey was conducted at the request of Mr. Richard Kraft of Kraft Engineering, Inc., of Flint, Michigan. The survey was conducted near the Village of Morrice in Shiawassee County and was intended to locate any extant cultural resources in the designated area prior to environmental impact.

On September 7, 8, 9, 1977, an archaeological survey of proposed sewer line rights-of-way and treatment facilities site was performed at the request of Mr. Dail Hollopeter of Jones and Henry Engineers, LTD., of Toledo, Ohio. The survey was intended to determine if cultural resources were located within any of the proposed impact areas; these areas were outlined by Mr. Hollopeter.

The subject of this study is Thelma Freeman, the children's librarian at the Bowling Green Public Library. Mrs. Freeman has worked for the library for fourteen years, beginning in 1964 as a bookmobile driver and later transferring into the library building as children's librarian. The story hour on which this study centers was instituted in 1967 when Mrs. Freeman became the Bowling Green Library's first children's librarian. Although she probably acquired her storytelling art through observation and adoption of her mother's storytelling technique and through experience with her children and grandchildren, Mrs. Freeman also took an undergraduate-level library science course …

Who can deny the sense of excitement the young and the young-at-heart feel when the circus comes to town? The sounds, smells, and attractions create a fantasy world where everything is fun.

But is it all good clean fun? Evidence in recent years suggests quite the contrary. The worst problems seem to be with the smaller circuses. In the past year, The HSUS has assisted several local societies investigating cruelty to animals in traveling circuses, rescued elephants and lions abandoned by a circus, and signed three complaints against one of the largest of today's small big tops.

Oral recollections concerning dating, courtship, marriage and related attitudes were collected from a single informant, Mrs. Blanche Story of Butte, Nebraska. Through in-depth questioning during twelve tape-recorded interview sessions, value- and attitude-oriented accounts were secured for the years 1885 to 1910, the late frontier period in northcentral Nebraska. These detailed reminiscences focus on common life experiences related to interpersonal relationships and the institutions related to them, resulting in a personal or folk history. The single greatest problem in research was the lack of documentation for the attitudinal content of the texts. Corroboration of both specific information and broad patterns of …

Anthropological interest in human exploitation of resources has increased considerably during the last decade. Archaeological and ethnological literature concerning man's utilization of the world's oceans is relatively abundant and there are now several on-going anthropological research programs, e.g., Aleutian Islands, Pacific Northwest Coast, California, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, and Southern Africa which focus primarily on maritime adaptations. The purpose of this study is threefold: (1) to suggest that anthropological assumptions regarding marine food resources and their use are inadequate; (2) to examine marine ecosystems with respect to structure and dynamics, primary productivity, ecological efficiencies, distributional and quantitative …

Field research was conducted in an isolated Miskito Indian village on the east coast of Nicaragua.

The research presented here is based on the general proposition that a productive way of monitoring and understanding the impact and interrelationships of economics and subsistence is through examining the nutritional process. Economic change involving the sole of a traditional subsistence resource for cash is a particular example of a brooder phenomenon which occurs in many developing areas. Consideration of the larger problem may be phrased: the nutritionaI process may be negatively related to economic change. This negative relationship between nutrition and economics involves …

Traditional Elements In The Selected Columns Of Allan M. Trout, J. Vaughn Webb

The first and last three months of Allan M. Trout's newspaper column "Greetings" were analyzed to show Trout's use of traditional material in that feature. An overview of previous scholarship concerning folklore in literature revealed a lack of study of the modern newspaper as a transmitter of folk items. The type of feature which Trout wrote was shown to have developed from pre-Civil War journalism. Trout's conception of folklore as a rural, kinetic process was presented through quotations from his books and columns, and "Greetings" was defined as a part of that process rather than as a static literary work. …
