G73-15 Handling Feed Moisture In Ration Formulation And Inventory Control (Revised December 1983), Paul Q. Guyer
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Nutritional quality control begins with knowing and adjusting for variation in the moisture content of feed ingredients. Moisture variations in feeds are almost always of more importance than variations in protein, mineral, and energy. Inventory control is affected by moisture content of feeds. Some feeds on hand are constantly changing in moisture content, and these changes frequently lead to financial losses when a price adjustment is not made for moisture losses.

G73-14 Grain Processing For Feedlot Cattle, Paul Q. Guyer
G73-14 Grain Processing For Feedlot Cattle, Paul Q. Guyer
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Several changes have occurred in the cattle feeding business which have focused attention on grain processing. The first of these was, the arrival of big feedlots provided an opportunity to use larger and more sophisticated processing equipment at reasonable cost per ton of feed produced. Also, the need to minimize feed separation and digestive disturbances encouraged the use of more sophisticated methods of processing.
A second development that is now focusing attention on grain processing is the rapidly increasing costs of equipment, fuel and labor involved in grain processing. In recent years, these have been increasing more rapidly than the …

The College had been doing a certain amount of Extension work since 1901, 13 years before the Smith-Lever Act was passed. This work consisted mainly of holding farmers' institutes, addressing farmers' meetings and judging at county fairs. During this 13-year period (1901-1914), four different superintendents were employed. Stacy Cochran served for two years. The work was discontinued for two years, and in 1905 it was reestablished under M. F. Greeley. He was succeeded in a short time by A. E. Chamberlain. The last man to hold the position before the work finally merged into Extension work was H. F. Stoner …

Winter Wheat Cultivar Performance In An International Array Of Environments, J. E. Stroike, V. A. Johnson
Winter Wheat Cultivar Performance In An International Array Of Environments, J. E. Stroike, V. A. Johnson
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
The International Winter Wheat Performance Nursery organized in 1968 by the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station in cooperation with the Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, under a contract with the Agency for International Development, U.S. Department of State, has presented a unique opportunity to measure the performance and stability of 28 winter wheat cultivars over an international array of environments. Computations of three parameters for yield, selected agronomic traits, and grain protein and lysine were made from nursery data recorded in 1969 and 1970.

Cooperative Extension Service Organization And Administration In Utah And Thailand, Sommart Chinoim
Cooperative Extension Service Organization And Administration In Utah And Thailand, Sommart Chinoim
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Thailand is an agricultural country with about 80 percent of the population operating farms. Agriculture is the main source of national income and 90 percent of all exports are agricultural products. The farms are small and a high percent of the farmers are illiterate which accounts for so many people remaining on farms. Even though agricultural development is under the National Economic and Social Development Plan, new methods of farming are not easily accessible to the small farmers. They still follow their ancestor's methods of cultivating, irrigating, and harvesting their crops. Most farmers operate subsistent farm units. They plant enough …

Date Of Planting Studies Of Winter Wheat And Winter Barley In Relation To Root And Crown Rot Grain Yields And Quality, C. R. Fenster, M. G. Boosalis, J. L. Weihing
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
This study was undertaken to determine the nature of root and crown rot of wheat and to ascertain the proper time to plant winter wheat so as to conserve moisture, minimize root and crown rot and thereby maximize yield. Studies conducted for 15 years at several locations in western Nebraska reveal that planting date is a significant factor for higher yields, particularly in certain years.

The systematic investigations of the potential of the Ord area for irrigated farming began during the Second World War when the possibilities of damming the river were first examined, initial soil survey was carried out, and agricultural experiments started. The Kimberley Research Station was established on its present site in 1945. A year later the State and Commonwealth Governments agreed to finance and operate the Station jointly, with CSIRO and the Western Australian Department of Agriculture being responsible for research.
The construction of the main dam designed to store 5,675 million m" ( 4.6 million acre feet) was completed in …

Differential Effects Of Technological Change On Midwestern Agriculture, Allen C. Wellman
Differential Effects Of Technological Change On Midwestern Agriculture, Allen C. Wellman
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
The first objective of this study is to estimate the direct and indirect effects of several specific technological changes related to farm production and subsequent marketing activities on inter-area aspects of income per farm operator, land values, farm size and general adjustments in the competitive strength of states and regions, primarily in the Midwest. The second objective is to assess the research and policy implications of the results of the first objective.

Results Of The First International Winter Wheat Performance Nursery, J. E. Stroike, V. A. Johnson, J. W. Schmidt, P. J. Mattern
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
The International Winter Wheat Performance Nursery was organized by the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station and the Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, under a contract with the Agency for International Development, U.S. Department of State. There has been informal cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization, United Nations, and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Mexico, D. F. Specific objectives of the nursery are to: (1) Test the adaptation of winter wheat varieties under a range of latitudes, daylengths, fertility conditions, water management and disease complexes (2) Identify superior winter varieties to serve as recipient genotypes for …

Effects Of Soil Fumigations With Telone And Nemagon On Physio-Chemical And Ultrastructural Changes In Carrot Roots And Sweet Corn Seeds, Maureen Mei-Chu Chen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Carrots (Daucus carota L. cv. Royal Chantenay) and sweet corn (Zea mays L. cv. Iochief) were grown on the Utah State University's Greenville farm in 1969 and 1970. The soil was fumigated with Telone (a mixture of 1, 3-dichloropropene and other chlorinated hydrocarbons) at the rates of 10, 20, and 30 gal/acre and Nemagon (1, 2-dibromo-3-chloropropane) at the rates of 1, 2, and 3 gal/acre one week before planting. Samples of uniformly mature carrot roots were taken for the studies of total carotenes, β-carotene, total and reducing sugars, respiration, and ultrastructural changes; and those of sweet corn seeds for the …

Nitrogen Fertilisers And Cereals, M G. Mason
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
FEW aspects of cereal growing have received as much attention in the past 20 years as nitrogen fertilisers.
The recommendations and yield figures presented below are based on numerous trials in the agricultural areas of Western Australia.
