The Role Of Postnatal Adrenergic Manipulation In The Mediation Of Fetal Programming Adaptions In Growth And Skeletal Muscle Glucose Metabolism That Persist In The Juvenile Iugr-Born Lamb, Rachel L. Gibbs
Department of Animal Science: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Our 1st study assessed growth deficits in IUGR juvenile lambs and the benefits of treatment with adrenergic and inflammatory mediators. Growth metrics including bodyweight, rate of gain, and crown-rump length were diminished by placental insufficiency-induced IUGR through 2 mo. of age but were recovered by daily clenbuterol or curcumin supplementation. Body composition metrics indicated by bioelectrical impedance, proximate analysis, and loin size revealed that fat-free lean mass, specific muscle group sizes, and protein-to-fat ratios were reduced in unsupplemented IUGR lambs but recovered to or even past controls in clenbuterol-supplemented lambs. From these findings, we conclude that IUGR impairs postnatal …

Selection Of The Most Appropriate Tillage System Based On Topsis Model With Emphasize On Impact Of Different Tillage Systems On Yield, Ali Mirzazadeh, Razieh Pourdarbani, Salman Fekri
Emirates Journal for Engineering Research
Among the various agricultural operations, tillage alone accounts for 60% of the energy consumed in agriculture. Other concerns, such as soil compaction, time management, economic issues, porosity reduction, moisture storage capacity, as well as a 25% increase in water and wind erosion, has further fueled efforts to improve tillage methods. In this regard, conservation tillage is more considered by experts. This study was conducted to evaluate important indices of wheat production in different tillage methods. Two plots located in Moghan Agro Co. were selected and were divided into four equal 2.8 hectares. Experiments were performed in randomized complete block design …

Theses and Dissertations
The U.S. floriculture industry was estimated at $4.77 billion in 2018 with annual bedding plants representing the main segment valued at $1.46 billion dollars. Silicon (Si) and titanium (Ti) are beneficial nutrients which can improve growth and quality of greenhouse horticultural crops when applied exogenously. Information is lacking as to whether Si and Ti enhancement during greenhouse production increases bedding plant performance in the outdoor landscape. Therefore, this study examined landscape performance of four annual bedding plant species treated with foliar applications of Si and Ti during greenhouse production over two growing seasons. Plant species were selected based on U.S. …
Low Income And Access To Healthy Food: The Case Of Milk, Jeffrey Young, James K. Binkley
Low Income And Access To Healthy Food: The Case Of Milk, Jeffrey Young, James K. Binkley
Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity
Even with abundant dietary research and knowledge about healthy eating, there is still a considerable shortfall in dietary quality of low-income households in the US. Chen et al. (2012) proposed that this problem is at least in part due to low-income individuals’ having less expected future earnings and thus, reduced incentive to pursue longevity by means of healthy eating. We further their analysis, offering improvement by controlling for access to low-fat milk. We find that even when allegedly crucial factors such as cost and access are not issues, relative purchasing of low-fat milk is still linked to higher income.

The Effect Of Soil Ph On Phosphorus Content Of Clover Pasture, David Weaver, Robert Summers, David Rogers, Peta Richards
The Effect Of Soil Ph On Phosphorus Content Of Clover Pasture, David Weaver, Robert Summers, David Rogers, Peta Richards
Resource management technical reports
Testing of pasture soils from 2009 to 2018, as part of DPIRD’s Whole Farm Nutrient Mapping (WFNM) project in the coastal catchments of south-west Western Australia (WA), indicated that soil pH was so low it could be limiting plant access to nutrients. Observations by some farmers who had been involved in the soil testing were that lime application had not increased pasture production, even when pHCa (pH measured in calcium chloride) tests indicated that phosphorus (P) should become more available by increasing soil pH. Farmers also wanted to know if they needed to apply more P than soil testing …
