This article assesses the extent to which counselling services address the special needs of students with visual impairments in Tanzanian universities. The objectives are to: (i) analyse supportive counselling services available for handling social-psychological and educational problems facing students with visual impairments; and (ii) assess the extent to which the available counselling services are capable of addressing social-psychological and educational needs of students with visual impairments. This study examines the relationship between parents’ socio-economic status and cognitive development in pre-schoolers. Specifically, it explores the level of cognitive skills as demonstrated by pre-schoolers in a home environment, and the relationship between parents’ socio-economic status and pre-schoolers’ cognitive development. A total of 390 participants—including 195 children aged between 4 and 5 years and their parents (195)—from Msalala district in Shinyanga region completed a questionnaire with items on parents’ socio-economic status and cognitive skills of pre-schoolers. All students are impacted by stress and can improve learning through understanding the brain and brain regulation. For students who have experienced trauma this information is critical to their success. This presentation will provide guidelines, ideas, and strategies for teaching students key trauma-informed principles including strategies for physical, emotional, and cortical regulation. These principles and strategies can be taught to students individually or through group and classroom settings. Practical ideas and examples will be given along with feedback and lessons learned from the students we have taught.

This program will tell the story about one school district's journey to meeting the needs of the whole child. A shift in school culture from a reactive to a proactive purpose shaped the mindset of staff as they embarked in partnering with the local community to build a resource network to meet the needs of the students in which they serve. In addition to building community partnerships, the components of a successful intervention continuum are discussed including Positive Behavior Intervention and Support, Community in Schools, and the American School Counseling Association Model.

Purpose

This study aimed to investigate the interest and use of WhatsApp technology among the library users of National Defence University Pakistan.

Design/methodology/approach

A questionnaire in google forms was created shared with the students of five departments of National Defence University Pakistan via email. The data were tabulated and analyzed using SPSS 22 for this paper.

Findings

There is a need to recruit and to retain behavioral health providers especially when providers are moving from the provisional licensing status to a full licensure status. This study estimated the rates of conversion of provisional licenses to full licenses among provisionally licensed psychologists, mental health practitioners, master social workers, and alcohol and drug counselors (ADCs) in Nebraska and examined potential associations among demographic characteristics and license conversion rates. This article provides a summary of the literature and research justifying the need for creating equitable college readiness practices in K‐12 schools, particularly for Black and Latinx students who are at risk for not receiving college readiness knowledge and skills. Written in a style to provide a bricolage of personal narratives, literature, and research around postsecondary readiness, the authors shift between first and third person to demonstrate that the entire postsecondary process in K‐12 schools is in dire need of an upheaval. From the dialectical exchange presented, the authors develop strategies for developing equity‐focused college readiness practices.

LGBTQ+ teens’ career decision-making processes are confounded by LGBTQ+ identity development and negative experiences in school. The authors present literature identifying specific needs of LGBTQ+ teens involved in career planning and propose a specialized career group counseling model designed to address those needs. Potential application for counselors in schools and the community are discussed.

Black males encounter significant microaggressions and race related challenges as students in Predominantly White Institutions. These encounters negatively impact their college learning and social experiences. In the face of these challenges, college retention rate of Black males falls behind those of other racial and gender groups (Toldson, 2012). Notwithstanding, statistics point to the success and persistence of Black male students in such oppressive environments and the role of learning communities in fostering successful outcomes for students. This investigation sought to discover how universities are preparing students for the role of counseling involved when treating individuals with communication disorders. This study was performed using a survey distributed to university department chairs across the United States. The survey consisted of questions regarding the demographics of each university and the measures taken to prepare undergraduate and graduate speech-language pathology students for adequacy in counseling. This research study describes a quantitative examination of Arkansas school counselors’ perceptions of their knowledge about the McKinney-Vento homeless Assistance Act and how involved they are with partnership practices in meeting the needs of homeless children and families. The study also examined what type of training school counselors have received to work with homeless children, youth and families. The study’s purpose was to examine school counselors’ experiences while working with homeless students. The value of academic advising has been increasingly emphasized in higher education. In this study, attention is given to the most significant types of advice that a sample of cybersecurity faculty and advisors from the Commonwealth of Virginia recommend giving to cybersecurity students. The results show that faculty and advisors recommended that students be aware of six different aspects of cybersecurity education including the value of experience, the need for lifelong learning, the importance of hard work, the need to develop technical skills, the interdisciplinary nature of cybersecurity, and the need to develop liberal arts or professional/soft skills. Competency-based education (CBE) is a movement gaining momentum nationwide. CBE is built upon development of curricula, instructional methods, and assessment of certain skills and abilities, not purely knowledge. These skills and abilities are called competencies. Grading in a CBE-method school is often non-traditional. Rather than traditional A-F grades that appear on non-CBE transcripts, students in some CBE schools receive numeric course grades such as a 2.8 or 3.2. Educational leaders and parents have raised concerns regarding the impact these nontraditional grades may have on students during the college admissions process, particularly when applying to competitive schools.

In Maine, a student is identified as chronically absent when 10% or more of the days enrolled in school are missed due to excused or unexcused absences (Maine Department of Education, 2019).
