Fostering Self-Efficacy And Autonomous Motivation To Aid In Mastering High-Order Writing Skills, Jessica Nowacki Van Denheuvel 2023 Concordia University St. Paul

Fostering Self-Efficacy And Autonomous Motivation To Aid In Mastering High-Order Writing Skills, Jessica Nowacki Van Denheuvel

Graduate Teacher Education

Students need to be able to write to be successful in school, personal life, and professional settings. In upper elementary, fourth- through fifth-grades, students shift from basic to high-order writing skills. The increased cognitive load can overwhelm students and even lead to task avoidance. Self-efficacy and autonomous motivation assist students in engaging and sustaining complex tasks. This literature evaluated fifteen primary research studies on how teachers may foster these constructs to aid in students’ development of high-order writing skills. Three strands were revealed. The first strand explored the state of writing instruction - the influence of standards-based educational systems and …

Threads, Buckets, And Impact: A Framework For Tool Accelerated Machine Learning Courses, Jonathan Adam Niemirowski

Doctoral Dissertations

Artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) have exploded in use, accessibility, and awareness in the past few years, particularly with the release of ChatGPT in late 2022. Advances in end-user ML tools are accelerating the development of ML applications, lowering the technical barrier of entry for users outside of the computer science (CS) community. Access to ML education within STEM is mostly limited to upper-level computer science courses that have deep pre-requisite requirements or to introductory workshops that yield limited ML skills. Despite the critical need for ML education, there is a lack of guidance in instructional design for applied …

Generative Ai And Opportunities For Feminist Classroom Assignments, Sarah F. Small 2023 University of Utah

Generative Ai And Opportunities For Feminist Classroom Assignments, Sarah F. Small

Feminist Pedagogy

Handwringing about ChatGPT and generative AI has penetrated teaching circles. Many educators are concerned it will disrupt education in negative ways. However, I introduce two approaches to assignments in which students work in tandem with AI to develop better understandings of reflexivity and feminist epistemology.
