How State Universities Are Addressing The Shortage Of Cybersecurity Professionals In The United States, Gary Harris
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Cybersecurity threats have been a serious and growing problem for decades. In addition, a severe shortage of cybersecurity professionals has been proliferating for nearly as long. These problems exist in the United States and globally and are well documented in literature. This study examined what state universities are doing to help address the shortage of cybersecurity professionals since higher education institutions are a primary source to the workforce pipeline. It is suggested that the number of cybersecurity professionals entering the workforce is related to the number of available programs. Thus increasing the number of programs will increase the number of …

Providing End-Of-Life Counseling: A Narrative Inquiry, Carol Hecht, Sibyl West
Adultspan Journal
This qualitative study aimed to address the gap in the research related to end-of-life counseling by exploring the experiences of counselors working with clients at end of life. While counseling literature and education are lacking regarding end of life, many counselors will work alongside clients approaching death. The purpose of this study was twofold: (a) to better understand the nuanced experiences of counselors providing end-of-life counseling and (b) to explore the supports and preparations helpful for counselors to provide end-of-life counseling. A narrative approach, using the Listening Guide (Gilligan, 2015), was employed to analyze and present the stories of three …

Considerations Of Medicare Telehealth Services With Older Adults, Sonah Kho, Amanda Dediego
Adultspan Journal
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic set in motion a rapid expansion of mental health services offered via telehealth. With this rapid expansion came the need to examine how policy and practice should be shaped in a future where telehealth is considered common in counseling practice. For counselors to understand how to support older adult clients in using telehealth services, they must understand telehealth policy. Following the eligibility of licensed counselors to participate in Medicare, counselors need to stay abreast of regulatory changes regarding restrictions and regulations on use of telehealth for mental and behavioral health services, including video and …

Arranging And Communication Techniques For The Studio Music Producer: A Curriculum, Elizabeth A. Rajcok
Masters Theses
College music students who desire to pursue careers in the commercial music industry would benefit from learning all aspects of music production, including the techniques of rhythm section instruments and the intricacies of various genres. However, courses that provide students with hands-on training in communicating and arranging within a recording studio are lacking in residential collegiate contemporary and commercial music degrees. Students lacking in multi- instrument knowledge and immersion in contemporary genres may find their insufficiency is an impediment when functioning in their desired profession as a music producer post-college. The curriculum project detailed in this study is designed to …

A Phenomenological Study Of Special Education Teacher Self-Efficacy For English Learner Instruction, Emilie Louise Jacumin-Simmons
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to understand the experiences of special education teachers (SETs) who instruct English learners (ELs) at secondary public schools in the Southeast. In this research, SETs instructing ELs were generally defined as SETs responsible for the instruction of ELs with or without disabilities. The theory guiding this study was Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy. The qualitative study used a phenomenological approach to explore the lived experiences of 11 SETs who teach in secondary public school districts in the southeastern United States. Data collection consisted of Teacher Self-Efficacy (TSE) Scale surveys, teacher reflections on their …

This paper reflects on the ways that media technology infiltrate, push, and pull educators in the 21st century. The authors write about the importance of including new technology in our courses to better prepare students for their future careers and lives while also acknowledging the challenges that inclusion can present. By highlighting how technology serves as a facilitator for classroom participation and the ways the emergent technology can enhance a journalism curriculum, the paper points to some of the ways that emergent technology in our classes can have an enduring positive effect on our students in the future. However, …

The current study fills a gap in the current literature by measuring current CES personnel and stakeholders’ attitudes toward the use of Podcasts as a tool for information dissemination. By identifying perceived barriers to podcasts by CES personnel and how receptive CES stakeholders are to CES-based podcasts, this study helps to identify important barriers to the development of podcasts, as well as how such podcasts can be best positioned to fulfill the needs and expectations of CES stakeholders. Podcasts have the potential to play a key role as an avenue for information exchange between the CES and its stakeholders. Two …

Using The Revised Bloom’S Taxonomy For Advanced Graded Exercise Testing In Clinical And Sport Performance Based Courses, M. Landram
Educational Practices in Kinesiology
Determining functional capacity (FC) is a critical aspect of performance and clinical measures. In this lab students will propose, complete, and evaluate the success of a graded exercise test (GXT) of their own design. This lab is intended for upper-level students who have been exposed to both maximal and submaximal exercise testing. Because of the nature of FC testing, this is an in-person activity; however, there may be ways to convert this into an online space as case studies or rely solely on submax estimations. Depending on the types of tests being performed, a 50-minute class can complete 2 tests …

Research Colloquium
Background: Research engagement among medical students is often hindered by perceived time constraints, lack of motivation, inadequate facilities, and insufficient supervisory guidance. Only 7% have published research papers. Project-based programs enhance research skills but frequently lack alignment between objectives, teaching methods, and evaluation. In the Rio Grande Valley, there is limited research on these issues. This study aims to analyze the performance of pre-clerkship students in a two-year longitudinal research course.
Aim: We hypothesize that core independent variables (InVar) such as attitudes toward research (R-ATR), cognition (BCRS), self-efficacy, and competency scores will improve throughout the longitudinal Research Module. These …

Research Colloquium
Background: The use of digital platforms to teach various subjects in the pre-clerkship curriculum is a fast-developing field, but their utility compared to traditional in-person didactics is unclear. Partly fueled by the recent demand for remote learning materials and ever-burgeoning access to artificial intelligence, the drive has been to develop materials to meet the demands of the digital age. Our goal is to evaluate the efficacy of the use of a digital atlas to improve learning outcomes in the field of neuroanatomy, namely developing skills in interpreting imaging studies featured on summative examinations. Literature has shown that the implementation of …

Adolescent Autonomy In Book Selection, Katie Dredger, Zoe Mcdowell

Books that have been on the shelves of classrooms in the commonwealth of Virginia are being removed by overzealous and misinformed parents and school board members. Supporting literacy development means allowing adolescents to read thought-provoking and edgy, high-quality texts, vetted by educated professionals, so that students can be critical curators and consumers of the wide range of media available today. Reading begets better reading, and varied texts build empathy for others. Improved literacy and empathetic criticality will benefit our commonwealth.
