The Role Of Dumping And Anti-Dumping In U.S.-China Trade Relations, Xiangguo Zhang 2020 Fordham University

The Role Of Dumping And Anti-Dumping In U.S.-China Trade Relations, Xiangguo Zhang

Fordham Dissertations and Theses

After forty years of momentous growth, China has become the second largest global economic entity, only after the United States. The rapid development of Sino-American trade has been accompanied by increasing trade imbalance, frictions, and conflicts. Both countries have relied on the anti-dumping measures to protect their domestic industries. Grounded in both international trade theories and empirical evidence, this study conducts a systematic analysis of anti-dumping strategies by the U.S. and China, including their causes, processes, short-term outcomes and long-term consequences. The dissertation is divided into two main parts.

Part One provides an overview of the …

Critical Issues In Trucking Workforce Development, Thomas O’Brien, Tyler Reeb, Deanna Matsumoto, Diana Sanchez 2020 California State University, Long Beach

Critical Issues In Trucking Workforce Development, Thomas O’Brien, Tyler Reeb, Deanna Matsumoto, Diana Sanchez

Mineta Transportation Institute

This white paper identifies research opportunities focused on workforce development for the trucking industry, particularly regarding truck drivers and the truck driver shortage. Interviews were conducted with key national and state trucking industry leaders. In addition, the authors gathered information from relevant sessions at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in January of 2020. The researchers also synthesized recent literature related to the trucking industry and workforce development. Key findings indicate that 1) the shortage may be a byproduct of “churn,” where truck drivers are leaving not the industry, but their respective companies for other companies, which creates a …

Un Análisis Histórico De La Respuesta De Organizaciones Sindicales A La Pandemia De Covid-19, Rachel Hodes 2020 SIT Study Abroad

Un Análisis Histórico De La Respuesta De Organizaciones Sindicales A La Pandemia De Covid-19, Rachel Hodes

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Community Building At Amalgamated Housing Co-Operative, Janet Butler Munch 2020 CUNY Lehman College

Community Building At Amalgamated Housing Co-Operative, Janet Butler Munch

Publications and Research

Amalgamated Housing Co-operative is located north of the Jerome Park Reservoir in The Bronx. Sponsored by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union (A.C.W.U.), this development opened in 1927 under the New York State Limited Dividend Housing Law of 1926.1 Built as affordable housing for moderate-income workers, the limited dividend housing legislation granted tax exemptions to the co-operative for a period of 20 years. Its residents were "co-operators," not tenants, who would own shares for their apartments in the development. Now in its ninth decade of operation, the Amalgamated is the oldest limited dividend housing development in the country and has been …

Revitalizing Scholarship On Academic Collective Bargaining, Daniel J. Julius 2020 Yale University

Revitalizing Scholarship On Academic Collective Bargaining, Daniel J. Julius

Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy

Research on unions in academe began in the 1960s and 1970s. It continued in the 1980s as greater numbers of faculty organized but then declined in the 1990s, with the exception of a small group of scholars who continue to study and comment on labor management relations in post-secondary education. Many prognostications, originally put forward in the 1970s and 1980s, remain unexamined. The last two decades in particular, have seen less attention focused on unions in academe. Organizing efforts continue to be robust, and advocates from all vantage points continue to offer arguments both in favor or against collective bargaining. …

Adjuncts And The Chimera Of Academic Freedom, Deirdre M. Frontczak 2020 Santa Clara University

Adjuncts And The Chimera Of Academic Freedom, Deirdre M. Frontczak

Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy

The last 40 years have seen a dramatic shift in the hiring, evaluation and promotional structures prevalent in higher education. While the model of a largely full time, tenure-track faculty continues to be the ideal of most academic institutions, economic, political and social changes have eroded that model. A substantial percentage, typically a majority, of college and university faculty are now hired on a contingent or part-time basis, with fiscal and other conditions determining job security, compensation, professional advancement, and an opportunity to participate in governance of departments and institutions. This paper examines the unseen impact that such hiring practices …

Strong Fusion Of Social Unionism And Normative Contract Negotiations: A Square Peg In A Round Hole?, Barry Miller 2020 York University

Strong Fusion Of Social Unionism And Normative Contract Negotiations: A Square Peg In A Round Hole?, Barry Miller

Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy

This paper considers a recent strike at York University in Toronto, Canada by three units of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3903, representing teaching assistants, contract or adjunct faculty and graduate assistants. The consideration of the strike has a two-fold purpose: The first is to situate it within the concept of social unionism, illustrating how this concept assists in understanding the strike beyond its strictly local and sector context. The second purpose is to consider how the strike reflects back on social unionism. In this regard, the paper considers challenges that can arise from the fusion of normative …
