Global talent management (GTM) has become a critical factor of organisational practice in multinational corporations. The aim of this research is to explore and understand the talent identification process in multinational hotel corporations (MNHCs). Drawing from multiple theoretical perspectives – human and social capital as well as agency and social network theories – the study takes an interpretivist stance to examine critically the talent identification process. By means of a qualitative collective case study design, three MNHCs were selected and 73 semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted …

A Hospitality Themed Event: A Journey Through Camelot, Jane Aronds

Senior Honors Projects, 2010-2019

This paper discusses my Themed Event Project, Camelot, which also served as my hospitality management capstone project. With a team of four other hospitality management students, I planned and executed a creative themed event surrounding the overarching theme of Medieval times and the Royal court of Camelot. Decorations, food, and entertainment for the event were based on Medieval culture to create a royal castle experience for guests to dine like kings and queens for the evening. This paper will outline all details of the event such as floor diagrams, decorations, menu items and entertainment. It will also outline analyses …

Who Is The Fairest Of Them All? Disney’S Depiction Of Non-Normative Embodiment In Its Villainesses, Caroline Bradley 2018 University of Southern Mississippi

Who Is The Fairest Of Them All? Disney’S Depiction Of Non-Normative Embodiment In Its Villainesses, Caroline Bradley

Honors Theses

The world of Disney has long been criticized for the lack of empowered princesses, racial representation, and unrealistic body images in its princess films. While steps have been made to provide a fairer representation through the bodies of the princesses, there has not been much progress in the way villains’ bodies are depicted. Most Disney villains exhibit a form of disability or non-normative embodiment including missing limbs, old age, or fatness. This thesis will analyze the bodies of three well-known Disney villainesses from three different eras—The Evil Queen, Ursula, and Mother Gothel—and will demonstrate how their bodies reflect the historical …

A Swot Analysis Of The Lodging And Tourism Industry In New Orleans, Kristyn Williams

Senior Honors Theses

The objective of this paper is to analyze the resiliency of the New Orleans lodging and tourism industry by conducting a SWOT analysis. A SWOT analysis is composed of four key parts: the internal influences that are the strengths (S) and weaknesses (W) and the external influences that are the opportunities (O) and threats (T). New Orleans is characterized by the ability to use its internal strengths to drive growth in its lodging and tourism market. The main internal strengths I identified were the city’s strong cultural identity, and destination attractiveness in both the convention and leisure markets.

However, New …

Gambling On Revenue, Kelsey Tallent, Michael Davidsson

My findings from my study have concluded that median age and subprime credit population were actually significant for every test when I thought they would be the least significant. If the evidence suggested is true Sedgwick county has a population that is focused on the younger population with higher credit scores when income is insignificant so this tells us that the college aged people with parents that have high credit scores are fueling casino revenue. Wyandotte county can be seen as the exact opposite because it is focused on the older population with higher income and higher credit scores. Ford …

Training The Multi-Generational Workforce, Jamie Fredericks 2018 Johnson & Wales University - Providence

Training The Multi-Generational Workforce, Jamie Fredericks

Hospitality Graduate Student Scholarship

The range in generations of employees is creating differences unseen in the workplace, until now. According to Keene et al. (2015), Baby Boomers were born between 1945 and 1964; Generation Xers were born between 1965 and 1980; and Millennials were born between 1981 and 1996. This broad range of ages means that employees can now be anywhere from 22 to 73 years of age. That fifty-plus-year gap is causing frustration, stress, and confusion among employees. Each generation has been influenced by certain social and economic transitions, technological advancements, and organizational developments that have led them to develop different views of …

Indah: The Unorthodox Rise Of A Columbian Staple, Will Helms

Senior Theses

Over the course of several weeks, I conducted a series of observations at Indah Coffee Co. in order to better understand its marketing and interaction with the neighborhood. After observing the coffee shop several times, I consulted outside sources, a process that is considered to be in the psychological realm of “grounded theory”, constantly comparing them to my own observations. After an interview with Indah’s owner, I began compiling my findings. The following paper is an outline of my findings, including the importance of the product in the coffee industry versus other industries, the power of successful grassroots marketing, and …
