Target Status And Method Of Payment : A Perfomance Analysis Of Acquisitions In Malaysia., Lee Siew Peng

Student Works (2010-2019)

This study investigates firms performance in acquisition based on the target status and methods of payment in the Malaysian market over the period 2000-2004. To measure the acquiring and target firms abnormal returns around the acquisition announcements, the study employs the market model with Scholes-Williams adjustments for thin trading. For long-term analysis after acquisition, we use the market-adjusted model and buy-and-hold abnormal approach. The study finds that, in the short-term, acquisition activities create positive gain to both acquiring and target firms, most of which go to the target firms. Further, most of the abnormal returns occurs on day 0 and …

Exploiting Metaheuristics To Strategize On Performance-Based Logistics Contracts For Mro Services, Arnd SCHIRRMANN, Elaine WONG, Zhichao ZHENG 2010 Singapore Management University

Exploiting Metaheuristics To Strategize On Performance-Based Logistics Contracts For Mro Services, Arnd Schirrmann, Elaine Wong, Zhichao Zheng

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

An inherent challenge of using Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) contracts for aircraftmaintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services is pricing. As with traditional bricks andmortar services, under-priced contracts cannot cover costs, while overpriced contracts loseout to competition. Furthermore MRO services have an additional element of uncertainty.Performance uncertainties arise due to the inability to accurately forecast demand of spareparts, while cost uncertainties are a result of globally distributed operations subjected tofluctuating economic conditions. Previous work to solve this contracting problem adoptedthe principal-agent model, obtaining an optimal solution from the perspective of both riskaverseparties (i.e., a price-sensitive customer and a profit-driven service provider). The Effect Of The Governance Environment On International Business: Three Essays, Jun Wu 2010 Old Dominion University

The Effect Of The Governance Environment On International Business: Three Essays, Jun Wu

Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration

We examine how governance environment affects business activities across countries. Using an updated framework of governance environments, we classify countries into three groups based on their dominant modes of governance: (1) rule-based (strong rule of law), (2) relation-based (weak rule of law and strong informal network based on private relations), and (3) neither-based (absence of both public rules and private network). We then examine how different governance types affect trade patterns and foreign investment flows. Chapter 2 theoretically proposes that the governance environment of a society plays a significant role in influencing international trade and foreign investment across countries. Chapter …

An in-depth qualitative study of 49 senior …

Paradigmatic Asymmetries Between Economics And Management Discourses As Instrumentalities Of Capitalist Order, Javed Akbar Ansari, Zahid Siddique Mughal

Business Review

This paper contrasts the economics and the management discourse paradigms to identify the purposes these discourses serve in sustaining and reproducing capitalist order The paper begins with an identification of the major characteristics of capitalist order Section 2 and 3 compare and contrast economics and management discourses respectively on the basis of the role they are designed to play in legitimizing and operationalizing capitalist order The concluding section argues that their roles vary in efficacy. Both economics and management provide incomplete justificatory and reformative proposals but this is because capitalism is an inherently conflictive social order always threatened by implosion. …

Making The Most Of Opportunities During A Recession, Christine G. Springer 2010 University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Making The Most Of Opportunities During A Recession, Christine G. Springer

Public Policy and Leadership Faculty Research

The best public managers know that conventional thinking won’t get them through tough times and that a recession is a rich opportunity to reinvent their organization and to lay the groundwork for future successes. Good times are when managers experience their greatest success. But bad times provide the greatest opportunities to rethink how the organization will persist through the inevitable up and down economic cycles so as to be successful in the future. Smart managers today that I have engaged regarding this process say that they plan for both the good and bad times by continually focusing on six processes: …

Centennial Hills Active Adult Center Business Plan, K. C. Brekken, Jeff Buchanan, David Gordon, Doug Guild

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

The economic indicators for the state of Nevada indicate a bleak financial future. The foreclosure rate of the Las Vegas Valley is five times the national average and the highest rate in the country (Hoak, 2010). Sales tax revenues continue spiraling down and fell by 6.6 percent in December 2009 from December 2008 (Garcia, 2010). State politicians face an estimated budget deficit of $3.5 billion. Local conditions are equally dire. The City of Las Vegas faces a budget shortfall of nearly $69 million for this fiscal year (Choate, 2010). City administrators struggle to find creative solutions to fill financial gaps …

Modified Information Criteria For Selecting A Finite Mixture Model, Safa K. Kadhem, Hajem A. Daham

Muthanna Journal of Administrative and Economics Sciences

Recently, a paper published by Celeux et al. (2006) presented several forms for the deviation information criterion (DIC) for mixture models, each version is depended on the kind of probability function. However, no reliable version was adopted for those models. As an idea inspired by Brooks (2002, p. 617), we develop, in this paper, Bayesian deviations plugging into two known criteria: the Akaike information criterion (AIC) and Bayesian information criterion (BIC) for choosing best mix model. Due to unavailability the closed-form of the perceived likelihood of those models, we propose an algorithm for estimating the observed likelihood for mixture models …

The Key Drivers Of Innovation In Malaysia., Seyed Amirhossein Taherizadeh

Student Works (2010-2019)

The day-by-day increase in competitive pressures keeps companies on their toes to continuously adapt, develop and innovate in order to excel in the stifling ocean of competition. Moreover, in today’s borderless world where boundaries are no longer relevant, where accessibility to knowledge, expertise and technology is far advanced, innovation has become a necessity rather than a luxury (Kaplan &Warren, 2007). Malaysia, among all of the developing countries in the world, is often held up as one of the few countries whose economic policies might be worth emulating. Its rapid economic growth following the industrial transformation that took place in the …

Who Cares? The Role Of Job Involvement In Psychological Contract Violation, Jason S. Stoner, Vickie C. Gallagher

Business Faculty Publications

This study examined survey data from full-time employees employed in a variety of occupations. We empirically examined how psychological involvement with one’s job affects reactions to psychological contract violation. Data for control variables (i.e., age, gender, organizational tenure), the independent variable (i.e., psychological contract violation), and the moderator (i.e., job involvement) were taken at Time 1; and dependent variables (i.e., depressed mood at work, turnover intention) were taken at Time 2. Results illustrated that job involvement was an important construct in understanding individuals’ negative reactions to psychological contract violations. Implications and limitations are discussed, and suggestions for future research are …
