Business as Mission (BAM) is the operation of a for-profit business located in a cross-cultural setting and aimed toward the fulfillment of the great commission. This definition reveals four key success factors for BAM: support, financial and otherwise, for both the business and the missionaries; the ability to gain access to cross-cultural settings; the opportunity to advance the gospel; and the requirement of managing both missional and business goals. This paper shows that access to payday lending affects societal health outcomes such as opioid-related mortality. I find that states allowing payday lending experience 1.5 lives lost per 100,000 population every year, which amounts to one-third of its mean value. I interpret this result in line with the increased consumption of opioid pills after accessing to payday lending. Accordingly, the effects are more pronounced in areas with low socioeconomic status. Confounding events, time trends, or systematic differences between states allowing and prohibiting payday lending are unlikely to explain the association between payday lending access and opioid mortality. Employee volunteering refers to employees giving time to volunteer for charitable causes with explicit support from their employer. Offering support for employee volunteering is one of the fastest-growing areas of employee benefits. Using a laboratory experiment, I examine the effectiveness of individual employee volunteering programs in motivating employees’ altruistic behavior outside the firm, as well as their work productivity and altruistic behavior inside the firm. I predict and find that the level of firm support for employee volunteering not only affects employees’ volunteering engagement outside the firm, but also affects employees’ work productivity inside the firm. The study of risk culture is a recent phenomenon focusing on its impact on risk management programs after organizations continue to experience adverse events when implementing risk management programs. This interpretive phenomenological analysis aims to understand whether risk managers understand the impact of risk culture on their risk management programs through their lived experience. Semi-structured interviews of ten risk managers with at least ten years of experience in the risk management profession provided a rich context to support the findings of this study. Firm performance in the specific areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and corporate governance (ESG) has become an important criterion that investors use in determining a firm’s value. This empirical investigation, based on stakeholder theory examines the relationship between regulatory oversight and third-party ESG ratings. Our research methodology involved quantitative, observational, and retrospective analyses. The study population consisted of 471 firms from two heavily regulated industry sectors—the utility and financial sectors—and from two less regulated sectors—the information technology and consumer discretionary sectors. This study expands on the agency model to analyze how Japanese companies intrinsically motivate their workers. Some previous studies have considered the intrinsic motivation of agents. However, they analyze monetary motivation methods that take into account workers’ intrinsic motivation or a simultaneous analysis of monetary motivation methods and the cost of raising intrinsic motivation that also takes into account workers’ intrinsic motivation.

However, while it is not always easy to change a monetary incentive system, the cost of raising intrinsic motivation is easier to change. Therefore, this study models the cost of raising intrinsic motivation as the only decision-making variable. …

In a previous article, the author examined the revitalization of Japanese temples, which are in a critical economic condition, from the perspective of management strategy. With the exception of prominent nationwide temples and tourist temples in metropolitan areas, temples are in a state of decline owing to a weakening Buddhist culture in metropolitan areas and low population density, among other causes.
