Ginsberg’S China Experience And Its Influence On His Series Of Poems On China, Xiankai Ren 2026 Southwest Jiaotong University

Ginsberg’S China Experience And Its Influence On His Series Of Poems On China, Xiankai Ren

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

As a renowned poet and representative of the Beat Generation, Allen Ginsberg was invited to be a member of the US Writers’ Delegation to visit China in 1984. His China trip as well as his reading of traditional Chinese literature constitute his China experience, which is represented in Ginsberg’s poetry. This essay examines Ginsberg’s series of poems on China. It first shows that Ginsberg’s introduction to the Beat Generation poets and their poetics provided the inspiration for his poetry writing. Then it discusses Ginsberg’s observation of Chinese society during his visit and his reading of the Chinese poet Bai Juyi. …

In Memoriam Gwangju: Transnational Memoryscapes Of Gwangju And Buenos Aires In The Works Of Han Kang And Im Heung-Soon, Heewon Chung 2026 University of Seoul

In Memoriam Gwangju: Transnational Memoryscapes Of Gwangju And Buenos Aires In The Works Of Han Kang And Im Heung-Soon, Heewon Chung

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

Currently acclaimed as the first Asian female author who won the Nobel Prize in literature, Korean writer Han Kang has persistently struggled with memoryscapes and traumascapes. Han’s collection of poems Winter Beyond the Mirror delineates the poetic “I”’s experiences of visiting Argentina and describes how she senses the interconnectedness between Gwangju and Buenos Aires. Korean artist-filmmaker Im Heung-soon’s recent film Good Light, Good Air addresses the same issue, and actually Im and Han have shared a mutual concern about it since Han’s novel Human Acts. This essay defines Winter Beyond the Mirror and Good Light, Good Air, coupled …

“No Ifs, Ands, Or Butts”: Analyzing Race And Gender In Sex And The City Through Black Feminist Theory, Daniella Orias 2026 Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton

“No Ifs, Ands, Or Butts”: Analyzing Race And Gender In Sex And The City Through Black Feminist Theory, Daniella Orias

Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy

This article analyzes Season 3, Episode 5 of Sex and the City, “No Ifs, Ands, or Butts,” through the lens of Black feminist theory. It investigates how race and gender are constructed, stereotyped, and selectively represented within the episode’s narrative. The analysis focuses on two Black characters who were featured only in one episode of the series, Adeena and Chivon, and examines how the show portrays harmful stereotypes such as the angry Black woman (Adeena) and sexualized Black male (Chivon) in the episode. These limited and harmful representations are further scrutinized by the fact that the show is often …

Fiscal Sponsorship In Truly Independent Film: Entity And Model Choice And Legal Risks, Samuel Johnson 2026 University of Washington School of Law

Fiscal Sponsorship In Truly Independent Film: Entity And Model Choice And Legal Risks, Samuel Johnson

Washington Journal of Law, Technology & Arts

This article examines fiscal sponsorship as a legal and financing structure for “truly independent” films—low-budget, non-commercial projects created by filmmakers without access to studio financing, tax incentives, or traditional investors. Neither standalone nonprofit incorporation nor purely for-profit entity structures adequately address the unique needs of such projects. After surveying the development of fiscal sponsorship as a means of funding projects that meet an exempt purpose, relevant IRS guidance, and current prevailing practices and organizational structures in independent film, the article contends that a Model C (“regranting”) fiscal sponsorship paired with a single-member limited liability company (SMLLC) offers the optimal balance …

Intended To Cross National And Cultural Divides: Art Reproductions From The Ikea Store, Nelly Janotka 2026 Heidelberg University / Städel Museum, Frankfurt

Intended To Cross National And Cultural Divides: Art Reproductions From The Ikea Store, Nelly Janotka

Artl@s Bulletin

Abstract: This paper provides an overview of some of the findings of my forthcoming dissertation, which examines Ikea’s globally standardized art motifs and their relationship to art historical canons and corresponding systems of power. It focuses on some of the pictorial strategies pursued to cater to customers across national and cultural divides, including the conflicts that come with such an ambitious attempt. Furthermore, the paper illuminates Ikea’s embeddedness in a larger, highly professionalized visual content industry, which views images primarily based on their global marketability and thereby affects the iconographies, compositions, and aesthetics of the motifs circulating globally.

Résumé: Cet …

Roaming Pixels: Clipping The Operative Close-Up, Vanessa Gravenor 2026 University of the Arts, Hamburg

Roaming Pixels: Clipping The Operative Close-Up, Vanessa Gravenor

Artl@s Bulletin

Abstract: This essay examines the disseminated war image as it takes off at the speed of light. It seeks to challenge the legacy of the post-structuralist spectator who watches war by complicating this figure with post-colonial perspectives where the distanced, global war dissemination collapses into the intimate, subjective gaze. Focusing on artist–theorist perspectives, it traces strategies for working with the digital broadcast of war, specifically from the 2000s and 2010s, and artists who peer into uncertain pixels and the cruelty of the close-up.

Zusammenfassung: In diesem Essay wird das verbreitete Kriegsbild untersucht, das mit Lichtgeschwindigkeit abhebt. Er versucht, das Erbe …

Image Circulations And Economic Imagination: Framing The Peruvian And Chilean Peripheries At The End Of The 19th Century, Alexandre Puche 2026 Universite Pantheon-Sorbonne (Paris I)

Image Circulations And Economic Imagination: Framing The Peruvian And Chilean Peripheries At The End Of The 19th Century, Alexandre Puche

Artl@s Bulletin

Abstract: This study explores two cases of photographic circulation between Peru, Chile and France in the late nineteenth century to show how images contributed to the requalification of the region within global commercial geography. It also proposes a historical methodology that considers visual repetition as a traceable product of transnational circulation. This approach sheds light on both certain mechanisms behind Atlantic propaganda regarding South America’s economic potential and the structuring role such circulations played in shaping regional representations.

Résumé: Cette étude examine deux cas de circulations photographiques entre le Pérou, le Chili et la France à la fin du XIXe …
