My eyes slowly opened. Daylight was streaming through my dorm room window. I rolled over onto my back underneath my warm blankets and glanced over to my roommate’s bed. He was still asleep. I flipped my phone over to check the time. One press of the home button woke it up, revealing my black-and white lock screen. It was still a little over a half an hour before I needed to get up, so I just lay there in bed, thinking about what to do. Going back to sleep crossed my mind, but I decided against it, I was already …

Calisthenics is a form of strength training in which you master your body weight. Some examples are push-ups, sit ups, and pullups. The more advanced version of the pullup is the muscle up, where you pull yourself completely over the bar. It may sound easy to think about, but it takes people months or years to be able to do it. A muscle up uses all your upper body, starting with the motion of a pullup and then turning it into a dip to lift your upper body above the bar. Many compositions teach “How to do a muscle up”, …

The sound of my 7:00 a.m. alarm brought me back to consciousness and out of my dreams. My mouth was parched, making my desire to fall right back asleep irrelevant. The water felt healing as it went down. I got up in a daze, struggling to find my way to the small orange dot indicating the light switch in my dorm room. A singular bulb illuminated the entire room, blinding me briefly. With my vision returned, I twisted off the top of the smooth glass container to obtain one of my morning supplements. Moringa to start, then comes the probiotics, …

This essay will go over an audio/visual modality, a purely text/visual modality, and an audio/face-to-face modality. These are worth analyzing because they give a basis of information to people who don’t understand what it feels like, but also to give solace to the people who live with it every day. Or should I go back to bed?” Just as I start to drift back to sleep, the roar of leaf blowers echoes outside. The ear-piercing sound cuts through the silence, …

I managed to wake up early that day on the surprisingly uncomfortable bed, or what is more accurately described as an itchy mattress laying on barren wooden frames, that I slept on in my room. This was practically a miracle, as I had gone to sleep past midnight, as I usually do. I still somehow managed to miss all the birds singing in the morning, or perhaps it was so early that I had woken up before the birds, which is even more unlikely.
