The Impact Of Physical Design And Surrounding Land Use On Residents’ Perceptions And Attitudes Towards High Density Housing, Jeffrey George Ahonen
The Impact Of Physical Design And Surrounding Land Use On Residents’ Perceptions And Attitudes Towards High Density Housing, Jeffrey George Ahonen
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
Studies of various types have indicated that high density housing and overcrowding may have effects on man’s well being and resident satisfaction. The study examines residents’ attitudes and perceptions of high density housing in two square mile tracts in the City of Kitchener. One tract is characterized by homogeneous land use; the other by mixed land use. Responses are obtained from sixty townhouse and sixty apartment units in each of the two sample tracts by use of a questionnaire. The data is analyzed using SPSS, a difference-of-means test and factor analytic work. It was determined that the variables physical structure …
Public Transit And Student Choice : A Survey With Portland State University Students, Sheku Gibril Kamara
Public Transit And Student Choice : A Survey With Portland State University Students, Sheku Gibril Kamara
Dissertations and Theses
Research in urban transportation has been of many facets. Some have emphasized modes and routes while others have attempted to isolate and look at small segments of the transportation market with specific demands. Such segments include workers, recreation riders, and to a less extent, students. In the "journey-to-work" studies, a major finding has been that as income of workers increases, the distance between residence and work-place also increases.
This thesis starts with a series of hypotheses generated as a result of the findings of other studies reviewed in the literature. In testing the hypotheses, variables that are likely to influence …
The Communication Of Morality: Cooperation And Commitment In A Food Co-Op, Teresa G. Labov
The Communication Of Morality: Cooperation And Commitment In A Food Co-Op, Teresa G. Labov
Teresa G Labov
Doctoral dissertation of Teresa Gnasso Labov. Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Political Science at Columbia University, 1980. This study investigates the communication of morality in the verbal behavior of a group. Patterns of interaction among members of a food cooperative are examined to find evidence of their use of moral matters in talk. Structural changes in the organization reduced the extent of cooperation and commitment demanded of participants, yet there was apparently little talk of these moral matters. Closer examination of the talk reveals a number of …
