L’Expérience De Femmes Ayant Subi Une Grossesse Non Désirée Au Sénégal : Une Étude Qualitative, Fatou Mbow, Nafissatou Diop

Reproductive Health

Bangladesh: Using Strong Evidence And Strategic Collaboration To Increase Access To Menstrual Regulation With Medication, Nancy Termini Lachance, Sharif M.I. Hossain

Reproductive Health

Through close cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Bangladesh, and other partners, STEP UP generated strong evidence and cultivated ongoing collaboration that contributed to policy changes and program expansions to increase access to menstrual regulation with medication (MRM). Study results demonstrate that MRM is acceptable and effective in Bangladesh, and has thus been legalized and folded into the national FP program and scaled up nationwide. However, ongoing observation and studies are still needed to understand whether the efficacy and acceptability of MRM remains the case when services are delivered at scale on a national level. Furthermore, …

Despite the significant progress that the government of Bangladesh has made toward introducing menstrual regulation with medication (MRM) into the national health program, there has been no systematic documentation on the introduction of MRM in Bangladesh, and on the approval process of local manufacturing of the mifepristone-misoprostol combination for menstrual regulation. This Research Report presents findings from the stakeholder analysis which was initiated to document the entire process of introducing MRM in the country. Findings from key informant interviews indicated some crucial factors that facilitated the process; these are presented here according to a four-part policy analysis framework: context, content, …

The overall goal of this study was to generate evidence on the availability, use, and quality of care for medical abortion services in private facilities (pharmacies and clinics) in Kenya. With the passing of a new constitution in 2010, there was renewed interest in the right to health and the need to reduce the high levels of maternal morbidity and mortality arising from unsafe abortion in the country. In spite of recent developments, there is limited understanding of the extent to which the changes have influenced the provision of medical abortion information and services in the country, the acceptability of …

Reproductive Health

This research report presents a country profile of Kenya, and looks at differential access to and quality of family planning (FP) and abortion/post-abortion services to assess their current situation, as well the various financing and delivery mechanisms for these crucial services. Since 2000, Kenya has passed several new sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and population-related policies, including a new population and development policy that addresses rapid population growth. Results of this country profile highlight the need for further research on: 1) innovative ways through which SRH information can be brought to schools; 2) FP/SRH indicators in people living with disabilities; …

Postpartum Family Planning In Burkina Faso, Marina Daniele

Reproductive Health

This is a formative study aiming to identify the main barriers to the provision and uptake of quality postpartum family planning (PPFP) services at the supply, access, demand, and policy levels in Burkina Faso. This study reveals that there are substantial shortfalls in the availability of quality PPFP at all these levels. Most of the difficulties observed in the provision of PPFP services are due to the failure to translate largely sound policies and guidelines into practice. This study contributes to identifying priority areas and makes recommendations for improvement in order to respond to unmet need for family planning in …

Many sexual and reproductive health programs operating in a limited-resource setting face a challenging balancing act between making services accessible and affordable to clients, including those most in need, and remaining financially sustainable. To achieve these dual objectives, the Population Council, with Marie Stopes International in Burkina Faso (MSI BF), launched a willingness-to-pay (WTP) study that examined the current situation and numerous pricing options, proposing optimal prices for products and services. The process of implementing the WTP survey was insightful for MSI BF as it provided evidence on client satisfaction with services and willingness to contribute to the cost of …

Reproductive Health
