Data-Intensive Service Provision Based On Particle Swarm Optimization, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen
Data-Intensive Service Provision Based On Particle Swarm Optimization, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B
The data-intensive service provision is characterized by the large of scale of services and data and also the high-dimensions of QoS. However, most of the existing works failed to take into account the characteristics of data-intensive services and the effect of the big data sets on the whole performance of service provision. There are many new challenges for service provision, especially in terms of autonomy, scalability, adaptability, and robustness. In this paper, we will propose a discrete particle swarm optimization algorithm to resolve the data-intensive service provision problem. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we compared it with an ant colony …

Gscheduler: Optimizing Resource Provision By Using Gpu Usage Pattern Extraction In Cloud Environment, Zhuqing Xu, Fang Dong, Jiahui Jin, Junzhou Luo, Jun Shen
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B
GPU-based clusters are widely chosen for accelerating a variety of scientific applications in high-end cloud environments. With their growing popularity, there is a necessity for improving the system throughput and decreasing the turnaround time for co-executing applications on the same GPU device. However, resource contention among multiple applications on a multi-tasked GPU leads to the performance degradation of applications. Previous works are not accurate enough to learn the characteristics of GPU application before execution, or cannot get such information timely, which may lead to misleading scheduling decisions. In this paper, we present GScheduler, a framework to detect and reduce interference …
Factor Analytic Mixed Models For The Provision Of Grower Information From National Crop Variety Testing Programs, Alison B. Smith, Aanandini Ganesalingam, Haydn Kuchel, Brian R. Cullis
Factor Analytic Mixed Models For The Provision Of Grower Information From National Crop Variety Testing Programs, Alison B. Smith, Aanandini Ganesalingam, Haydn Kuchel, Brian R. Cullis
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
Crop variety testing programs are conducted in many countries world-wide. Within each program, data are combined across locations and seasons, and analysed in order to provide information to assist growers in choosing the best varieties for their conditions. Despite major advances in the statistical analysis of multi-environment trial data, such methodology has not been adopted within national variety testing programs. The most commonly used approach involves a variance component model that includes variety and environment main effects, and variety by environment ( VxE ) interaction effects. The variety predictions obtained from such an analysis, and subsequently reported to growers, are …

Impacts Of Pheromone Modification Strategies In Ant Colony For Data-Intensive Service Provision, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen, Junzhou Luo
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
In the provision of dynamic data-intensive services, the cost and response time of data sets as well as the states of services may change over time. An ant colony system for this problem is studied in this paper. Specifically, we consider changing the QoS attributes of services and replacing a certain number of services with new ones at different frequencies. In order to adapt the ant colony system to handle the dynamic scenarios, several pheromone modification strategies in reaction to changes of the optimization scenarios are investigated. The aim of the strategies is to find a balance between preserving enough …
Multi-Objective Ant Colony System For Data-Intensive Service Provision, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen, Junzhou Luo
Multi-Objective Ant Colony System For Data-Intensive Service Provision, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen, Junzhou Luo
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
Data-intensive services have become one of the most challenging applications in cloud computing. The classical service composition problem will face new challenges as the services and correspondent data grow. A typical environment is the large scale scientific project AMS, which we are processing huge amount of data streams. In this paper, we will resolve service composition problem by considering the multi-objective data-intensive features. We propose to apply ant colony optimization algorithms and implemented them with simulated workflows in different scenarios. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we compared it with a multi-objective genetic algorithm with respect to five performance metrics
Multi-Phase Ant Colony System For Multi-Party Data-Intensive Service Provision, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen
Multi-Phase Ant Colony System For Multi-Party Data-Intensive Service Provision, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
The rapid proliferation of enormous sources of digital data has led to greater dependence on data-intensive services. Each service may actually request or create a large amount of data sets. To compose these services will be more challenging. Issues such as autonomy, scalability, adaptability, and robustness, become difficult to resolve. In order to automate the process of reaching an agreement among service composers, service providers, and data providers, an ant-inspired negotiation mechanism is considered in this paper. We exploit a group of agents automatically negotiating to establish agreeable service contracts. Twostage negotiation procedures are used in our data-intensive service provision …

A Resources Provision Policy For Multi-Unit Maintenance Program, Winda Nur Cahyo, Khaled El-Akruti, Richard Dwight, Tieling Zhang
A Resources Provision Policy For Multi-Unit Maintenance Program, Winda Nur Cahyo, Khaled El-Akruti, Richard Dwight, Tieling Zhang
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
A System Dynamics model for resource provision policy in multi-unit maintenance program is developed. First, a scheme is developed to formulate and evaluate policies regarding the provision under uncertain condition or resource requirement in a period of planning to result in minimum maintenance cost. The model emphasizes on resourcing strategy involving human and procurement. It is composed of 3 sub-models presented in a causal loop modelling. The human resource sub-model focuses on policies related to provision and management. The procurement sub-model takes into account the procurement process and inventory system. Due to data availability, the verification has encloses only the …
Economical Data-Intensive Service Provision Supported With A Modified Genetic Algorithm, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen
Economical Data-Intensive Service Provision Supported With A Modified Genetic Algorithm, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
The explosion of digital data and the dependence on data-intensive services have been recognized as the most significant characteristics of the decade. Providing efficient mechanisms for optimized data-intensive services will become critical to meet the expected growing demand. In order to create a cost minimizing data-intensive service composition solution, we design two steps and two negotiation processes over the lifetime of a data-intensive service composition. The solution for the first step is presented in this paper. The proposed service selection algorithm is based on a modified genetic algorithm, which some modifications of crossover and mutation operators are adopted in order …
