Investigating the relationship between a serial killer’s nature (their biological makeup) and nurture (their learned behavior) is important due to the fact that any trauma they experienced as a child makes them more likely to offend as an adult. This study investigated how nature (e.g., biological brain damage and the MAOA gene) and nurture (e.g., their physical upbringing) affected serial killers, specifically the number of their victims, during the ‘serial killer era’ (1970 to 1999). The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between crime victimization, age at the time of victimization, psychological health, and resilience. Past research has shown that crime victimization has been linked to higher levels of depression and suicidal ideation, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders, and that those who experience a traumatic event as a child are influenced more negatively than those who experience trauma as an adult. In March 2020, United States government implemented health and safety mandates, including school closures, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). As a result, some caregivers with young children were forced to take on new roles. Low-income households with young children appeared to be more highly impacted than other groups, experiencing acute pandemic-related stressors on top of previous vulnerabilities. Using qualitative analysis, this study examined how low-income caregivers with young children adapted to pandemic-related stressors and how stressors may have altered relationships and well-being in the household (Daks et al., 2020). Previous studies have shown that men and minorities are more likely to experience stigma for having mental illnesses (Dupont-Reyes et al., 2020). This study was conducted to determine whether there would be an impact of race and gender on internal and external mental illness stigma. The participants were 179 undergraduate students at a college that is majority white and female. It was hypothesized that men and minorities would experience more internal and external stigma than women and whites. Prior research has shown that listeners may hold a variety of negative attitudes towards individuals with speech or language disorders, such as beliefs that they are lower in intelligence, friendliness, or competence (Allards & Williams, 2008; Bettens et al., 2020; Lallh & Rochet, 2000). These studies have suggested that attitudes tend to vary based on the type and severity of the disorder, but results are inconclusive on specific communication characteristics impacting perceptions. Over the past two years, the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has resulted in long-lasting damage, an increase in mood disorder diagnoses, and an increased spread of misinformation. It was this study’s focus to determine whether exposure to misinformation about SARS-CoV-2 affected anxiety, conspiracy beliefs, and vaccine hesitancy. Participants completed a pre- and post-test State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for perceived anxiety measurement alongside the Perceived Stress Scale. Participants were also connected to biofeedback machines for physiological anxiety measurement. Since its inception, Salovey and Mayer’s (1990) construct of emotional intelligence has been associated with positive outcomes from heightened academic performance to resilience (Connor & Slear, 2009; Costa & Faria, 2020). The purpose of the current study was to examine the impact of religiosity and personality on resilience and coping strategies amongst undergraduate college students. Participants completed four different questionnaires measuring religiosity, personality, resilience, and coping skills, as well as a demographic questionnaire. A two-way factorial ANOVA statistical analysis and correlation analyses were conducted. The findings indicated that participants who were pessimistic reported more use of maladaptive coping strategies than optimistic participants. The objective of the current study was to examine the relationship between depression, anxiety, sleep self-efficacy and sleep quality in college students by using both objective measures and self-report data. Participants included undergraduate students from a small liberal arts college who wore an ActiGraph wGT3X-BT wristband for a period of seven nights. At the end of the seven nights, participants also completed the Beck Anxiety Inventory, Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, the Sleep Self-Efficacy Scale, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. This study examined the role humor plays on the acceptance of rape myths in college students. This study sought to determine if the type of joke (sexist, feminist or neutral) and the reception method (reading or listening) had an impact on how much an individual accepts rape myths. Participants either read or listened to five jokes from one of three joke categories: sexist, feminist, or neutral. This study examined the impact of different forms of social media on the emotional and behavioral response to cyber victimization. Via Survey Monkey®, participants viewed a hypothetical post on either Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. This post mimicked a cyberbullying scenario that targeted the victim’s weight. Participants were asked to consider a number of different responses to the cyber victimization including: severity of bullying, behavioral response (e.g. liking, sharing, blocking, etc.), emotional responses, and coping strategies. The current study examined how physical characteristics influence perceptions others have of people with Down syndrome (DS). Participants were shown one of four pictures, which were an adult male with Down syndrome facial characteristics, an adult male without Down syndrome facial characteristic, a male child with Down syndrome facial characteristic and a male child without Down syndrome facial characteristics. This study was a series of three experiments which examined the effects of gender stereotypes on the creation of false-memories. Participants were undergraduate students who viewed a short one-scene video depicting a couple on a date. The video featured a man and a woman displaying a mixture of typical, atypical, or a combination of both gender stereotypical behaviors. Following the video, participants completed a quiz to determine whether they created false memories consistent with gender stereotypes. The broad scope of extracurricular activities during childhood and adolescents provides favorable conditions for promoting positive youth development. The current study examined the relationship between athletic extracurricular experiences at the high school and college level and developmental factors learned from these experiences. From this particular sample, participants participating in either a team or an individual sport tended to have significantly higher rates of positive identity experience within their activity compared to those who did not play an upper level sport. Recent research suggests that essential oils of a certain quality can enhance memory consolidation and cognitive performance. The present study examined whether the essential oils rosemary and peppermint were powerful enough to significantly improve short-term memory in recall and recognition tasks. Participants were in a room with a device that diffused a scent or water (no scent) for ten minutes prior to their entry. The participants viewed word lists and were later tested for accuracy in terms of recall and recognition. This study was designed to determine whether participants would have better recall for names with phonetic properties that matched a paired personality trait. In other words, phonetically attractive names paired with positive traits and phonetically unattractive names paired with negative traits should have higher rates of recall than names whose phonetic properties did not match a paired personality trait, such as phonetically attractive names paired with negative traits or phonetically unattractive names paired with positive traits.
