Instrumental And Expressive Violence: Motive For Women's Use Of Violence And Their Perception Of Their Partner's Use Of Violence, Lisa Claire Maisano Kennedy
Instrumental And Expressive Violence: Motive For Women's Use Of Violence And Their Perception Of Their Partner's Use Of Violence, Lisa Claire Maisano Kennedy
Theses Digitization Project
In this study, we characterized the motivation for violence as instrumental, expressive, and self-defense. We learned that women perceive their own motivation for violence differently than they perceive their partner's motivation for violence, a form of self-defense, fighting back, and protecting themselves from harm. In contrast, women reported that their partner's motivation for violence was instrumental to get one's way, assert dominance, gain power, or to intimidate one's partner.

Theses Digitization Project
Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) popularly known as "Ecstasy" continues to gain popularity as a recreational drug that has been shown to increase serotonin and dopamine levels. The present study has demonstrated that repeated exposure to MDMA produces long-term damage to serotonergic and dopaminergic neurons in various regions of the rat brain.
Persuasive Behavior As A Moderator Of The Relationship Between Strategic Behavior And Leadership Effectiveness, Daniel Rojas Vieira
Persuasive Behavior As A Moderator Of The Relationship Between Strategic Behavior And Leadership Effectiveness, Daniel Rojas Vieira
Theses Digitization Project
Based on the notion that leader behaviors are mutually facilitative on their effects on leader effectiveness, this study tested the hypothesis that Persuasive behaviors enhance the predictive relationship between Strategic behaviors and Leadership Effectiveness. Persuasive was hypothesized to act as an enhancer based on the notion that the leader's ability to influence others and develop followership can enhance the impact of a leader's ability to set strategy, provide direction, make decisions and plan on perceived effectiveness.

A Correlation Analysis Of Parental Expectations, Mentoring, And Gender Socialization On Women's Self-Efficacy, Nancy Lillian Amarin, Norina Reis
Theses Digitization Project
This study investigated social influences believed to have an impact on the development of women's self-efficacy. The independent variables examined included parental expectations, gender role socialization, and mentoring. A questionnaire with both ordinal and nominal questions was administered to 196 female undergraduates attending California State University, San Bernardino and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. The sample was predominantly Caucasian (35,2 percent) and Hispanic (33.7 percent), with a median age of 20. Participants answered 57 questions, consisting of demographic questions, measures of self-efficacy and three independent variables. Pearson r analysis found positive significant correlations between self-efficacy and all three variables. The …
Comparative Analysis Of Depression In Homeless Populations, Tsudoi Suzuki
Comparative Analysis Of Depression In Homeless Populations, Tsudoi Suzuki
Theses Digitization Project
The purpose of this project was to find out whether or not there were specific factors that made homeless people depressed. Finding depression factors will help to establish strategies and programs that would prevent homeless people from being depressed. The current study tested the hypothesis that basic needs and education are needed to help in factoring depression.
The Effects Of Lesions To The Superior Colliculus And Ventromedial Thalamus On [Kappa]-Opioid-Mediated Locomotor Activity In The Preweanling Rat, Arturo Rubin Zavala
The Effects Of Lesions To The Superior Colliculus And Ventromedial Thalamus On [Kappa]-Opioid-Mediated Locomotor Activity In The Preweanling Rat, Arturo Rubin Zavala
Theses Digitization Project
The purpose of this thesis was to determine the neuronal circuitry mediating U50,488-induced locomotion in preweanling rats. To this end, preweanling rats received bilateral electrolytic lesions of the ventromedial thalamus or superior colliculus and, two days later, the same rats received a challenge injection of U50,488. It was predicted that bilateral lesions of the ventromedial thalamus or superior colliculus would attenuate the U50,488-induced locomotor activity of 18-day-old rats.

Sex Stereotypes: A Comparison Of Hispanic And Caucasian Mother's Expectations And Wishes, Ngoc Thuy Pham
Sex Stereotypes: A Comparison Of Hispanic And Caucasian Mother's Expectations And Wishes, Ngoc Thuy Pham
Theses Digitization Project
In order to understand how children develop gender stereotypes, research needs to be conducted regarding parent's beliefs about gender differences and gender expectations. This is because while there may be other environmental factors involved, parents still have powerful influence on their children. Gender identification starts early. Children learn that this is the way males or females are supposed to behave. Parents may shape and influence a child's beliefs concerning feminine and masculine identities even from the very first moments of a child's life.

Construct Validation Of Common Format Biodata Within The Public Sector, James Foster Baxter
Construct Validation Of Common Format Biodata Within The Public Sector, James Foster Baxter
Theses Digitization Project
Biographical data inventories (biodata) have one of the best predictors of job performance criteria for over 100 hundred years. Similarly, CommonFormat Biodata (CFB) inventories have also demonstrated their ability to predict certain performance criteria. There are two common themes and tow common sub-themes typically associated with CFB intruments, Education, experience, time, and specificity respectively. The major purpose of this paper was to employ a confirmatory factor analysis strategy to construct and validate a CFB inventory.

The Effect Of Graphomotor Exercises And Music On Normal Children And Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Lucy Ellen Heyming
The Effect Of Graphomotor Exercises And Music On Normal Children And Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Lucy Ellen Heyming
Theses Digitization Project
Although drug therapy is the more common treatment of ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), and has been shown to reduce symptoms, the benefits of the theraputic drugs are temporary, and the therapy can have adverse side effects. For these reasons, many prefer not to use drug therapy for ADHD. Alternative treatments have been shown to have some efficacy, especially when used in conjunction with drug therapy. Dynamic Systems theory suggests that an intervention which combines graphomotor exercises with music may have a positive effect on a child's behavior and attention. A 2 x 2 pretest-posttest design tested the hypothesis that …
