Strategy To Strengthen Cooperation Between The European Union And The Mediterranean Countries Through The Union For Mediterranean (Ufm), Elistania Elistania, Farandy Nurmeiga, Agung Permadi
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
The European Union is an example of regional cooperations that represents regional identity. In the midst of the process of integration and expansion of membership, the European Union has an interest in building good relations with non-member countries in the immediate region, including the Mediterranean. The process of establishing cooperation between the European Union and the Mediterranean countries continues to change. The Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EMP) in 1995 was the place for regional cooperation with most member countries and had a well-structured pillar of cooperation. However, the two entities re-formed a new cooperative platform, The Union for Mediterranean (UfM) in 2008. …
Turkish Domestic Actors’ Role In Foreign Policy Making: Case Of Turkey – Krg’S Strategic Bilateral Partnership, Luerdi L
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
This paper aims to describe the role of Turkish domestic societal actors in the state policy making in the case of strategic bilateral partnership between Turkey and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG); a quasi state within the Iraqi federal state. The rareness of literature describing domestic forces within Turkey and the consequence for the state’s policy in building a strategic partnership with the KRG was the gap that this research would be expected to narrow. The paper argues that Turkish domestic actors like the individual, the Justice and Development Party (AKP), the Turkish military and business people had an important …

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
This paper presents a historical and qualitative study to examine the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as a force in international politics and its impacts on the dynamics of violent extremism threat in Indonesia. The rise of ISIS was a turning point from the nascent progressive shift toward democratization in the Arab world represented by the “Arab Spring,” and its influence has spread beyond Syria and Iraq to threaten regional and global security. Like in other countries in the Islamic world, Indonesian society and politics have been significantly affected by the activities of ISIS. In …

From Rivals To Partners: Constructing The Sino-Indonesian Strategic Partnership, Gatra Priyandita
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
This study is an inquiry into the use of strategic partnerships as an instrument of diplomacy in Indonesia. Strategic partnerships have become a key fixture of Indonesia’s omnidirectional foreign policy in the post-Suharto era. However, the rationale behind the formation of strategic partnerships for Indonesia’s strategic interests, as well as the process behind its formation, remain understudied. This paper seeks to fill this gap in the literature by examining how Indonesia utilizes its strategic partnership to engage China. Using Wilkins’ analytical framework for the study of strategic partnerships, this study finds that Indonesian policymakers have used strategic partnerships as instruments …

Kashmir As A Symbol Of Pakistan: Why Violence In Kashmir Never Stop?, Wonjune Hwang
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
Kashmir has been a 'powder keg' in South Asia. In this region, India and Pakistan waged three all-out wars and numerous skirmishes. Kashmir has been occupied separately since 1947, but still, both sides claim the other’s occupation is illegal. After 9/11 in 2001, terrorists have become demonized and pardonless. This article focuses on analyzing the sources of violence and Pakistani intervention. The idea of this article is theoretically based on Volkan's …

La Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (CELAC) was initiated in 2011 as a forum for dialogue and consensus between Latin American and Caribbean governments where it forms a trading block that excludes the United States and Canada. This paper aims to analyze the considerations of the Mexican government to join CELAC in the midst of mutual agreement with US and NAFTA. Theory of formulation of foreign policy is used to answer the sources of political consideration of the Mexican government. It is …

The Complex Interplay Of Eu-China And Eu-Hksar Relations, Antonia Gough
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
Due to a unique colonial history, Hong Kong today operates under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework. In the years immediately following the handover, it was generally thought that this was working quite well. In recent years, however, tensions have arisen within the “One Country, Two Systems” model, most notably including the 2014 Umbrella Movement, the imprisonment of student protesters and various notable incidents like the disappearance of five book publishers. This article aims to uncover how consistent the EU is in promoting democratic norms in its relations with the HKSAR. Using discourse analysis of relevant EU documents, the article …

The Development Of Concept Of Territory In International Relations, Ghifari Athallah Ramadhan
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
The concept of territory, a politicized space, is not really explored in International Relations, even though territory is where International Relations happen physically. This article explores the development of the concept of territory in International Relations. By seeing the development of the concept of territory in International Relations, I could see the main arguments regarding territory. For example, I could understand the argument behind the jargon of “borderless world” or “return of geography”. In order to fully explain the development of the concept of territory in International Relations, I divide my research into five parts. First, I would describe the …

The Impact Of Democratization And International Exposure To Indonesian Counter-Terrorism, Ali Abdullah Wibisono
The Impact Of Democratization And International Exposure To Indonesian Counter-Terrorism, Ali Abdullah Wibisono
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
This article explains the influence of the United States of America to Indonesian counter-terrorism. Two aspects of counter-terrorism are explained: effectiveness and adherence to human rights values. It argues that America’s emphasis on the need to forge security cooperation in responding to terrorism facilitated human rights values to be adopted as justification of counter-terrorism, rather than a balancer to its effectiveness. Indonesia’s cooperation with the U.S in counter-terrorism has facilitated the growth of the restitutive or kinetic measures, but neglects a strengthening of political leadership over institutional development of counter-terrorism. The latter can be judged from the absence of policy-evaluation, …

Analisis Strategi Keamanan Energi Cina Dalam Upaya Penurunan Emisi Karbon Melalui Pendekatan Konstruktivisme, Hidayat Chusnul Chotimah
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
The Chinese government has finally committed itself to reducing carbon emissions after having for years refused to limit its energy consumption levels due to industrialising efforts and economic development needs. The primary reason behind the policy change is the severe, life-threatening environmental damage resulted from industrialisation processes. The Chinese government has now set out strategic measures to safeguard its energy security by harmonising its climate change and economic policies. This is done to achieve carbon emission reduction through energy conservation and green economy development by developing renewable energy such as nuclear energy, hydropower, wind power, solar power and other undiscovered …
The Philosophical Worth Of Liberal Peacebuilding, Muhammad Waffa Kharisma
The Philosophical Worth Of Liberal Peacebuilding, Muhammad Waffa Kharisma
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
The concept of Liberal Peacebuilding is often associated with the failure of pushing liberalisation in war-torn failed states: the practice of liberal peacebuilding as a liberal project instead of a peacebuilding effort. The essay starts with breaking down the basic premises of a liberal peacebuilding and its ideological drive. Then, it identifies and evaluates the critics and alternatives to liberal peacebuilding. The essay sees that the implementation of fixed standard peacebuilding packages in vastly different scenarios and countries is the consequence of practicing liberal peacebuilding as a liberal project. This essay argues that liberal peacebuilding is worth saving if it …
Asean As 'Compartmentalized Regionalism': A Preliminary Discussion, Shofwan Al Banna Choiruzzad
Asean As 'Compartmentalized Regionalism': A Preliminary Discussion, Shofwan Al Banna Choiruzzad
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
This article tries to offer a new ontological perspective to scrutinize ASEAN as a form of 'compartmentalized regionalism'. In contrast to the general view of ASEAN diplomatic practitioners and academics who see the history of ASEAN as an evolution of a regional project that in the political and security dimension becomes a multidimensional regional region through 'widening and deepening', the idea of 'compartmental regionalism' replaces the development of ASEAN as the development of two separate regionalism projects in a single entity. Both regionalism projects have different settings, supplemented by different actors, and work based on differing logic. Thus, the development …
How Threat Assessment Could Become Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Case Of U.S.-China Relations, Muhamad Arif
How Threat Assessment Could Become Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Case Of U.S.-China Relations, Muhamad Arif
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
This article tries to explain how misperception can trigger conflict between countries. The article would employ spiral model of conflict proposed by Robert Jervis as a theoretical framework to scrutinize contemporary US and Chinese contemporary competition. As a result, this paper shows how threat assessment could trigger a spiral of conflict through state’s tendency to overestimate threat level and its failure to perceive that defensive behavior can be interpreted as offensive by the belligerent. Based on this analysis, the probability of conflicts can be reduced as each country tries to comprehend motivations that drive other behavior, perceptions and reactions that …

Contesting Global Civil Society’S Legitimacy Claims: Evaluating International Non-Governmental Organizations (Ingos)’ Representation Of And Accountability To Beneficiaries, Cazadira Fediva Tamzil
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
The global civil society is often regarded as a progressive moral force that provides advocacy and protection of marginalized groups in the global political arena. Nevertheless, departing from the belief that civil society has great power and influence over global dynamics, it sees that the legitimacy claims they articulate and articulated by academics are essential to be evaluated, especially with regard to their representation and accountability groups and individual beneficiaries. This paper concludes that the claims of legitimacy of civil society are less justifiable, both normatively and empirically. From the normative point of view, claims for civil society representation are …

The Evolving Security Policy Of Japan And The Adherence To Antimilitarism Culture, Chaula Rininta Anindya
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
Japan has reinterpreted Article 9 as the fundamental constitution of their antimilitarist culture and shows its willingness to play a more active role in the International security. This article seeks to examine the changes of Japan’s security and the potential shift of antimilitarist strategic culture, arguing that despite the continuous changes, Japan has not changed its strategic culture due to perpetual debates within the domestic politics that are vital in shaping the security identity. The changing security practices are merely a natural response to the current dynamic of International security environments. Therefore, it remains unlikely for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe …

Analisis Teori Offense-Defense Pada Reformasi Kebijakan Pertahanan Jepang Dalam Dinamika Keamanan Di Asia Timur, Fadhil Alghifari, Raja Nathania Olga Letticia
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
This paper will seek to demonstrate how the use of Offense-Defense Theory can best explain the Japan’s new defense reform legislation that enables the country to play a more comprehensive global security role commensurate with its capabilities, resources, national interests, and international responsibilities. Through this offense-defense lens, it will be argued that Japan’s new defense reform legislation is a response to the growing dominance of ‘offensive’ behaviour by the neighbouring countries in East Asia. This paper will then elaborate more about the elements that are used in the offense-defense theory to analyze the ‘offense’ dominance that prompts East Asian states …

Periode Komitmen ke-II Protokol Kyoto 1997 diperpanjang hingga 2020. Sementara itu pengganti protokol ini …
