A Closer Look At Using Stringer’S Action Research Model In Improving Students’ Learning, Mohammad Ali Nasrollahi

Mohammad Ali Nasrollahi(Ph.D)

Action research is a systematic approach to investigation that enables people to find effective solutions to problems they confront in their everyday lives. A significant feature is that action research lays claim to the professional development in education. Action research as any systematic inquiry conducted by teachers, administrators, and counselors with a vested interest in the teaching and learning process, for the purpose of gathering data about how their particular schools operate, how they teach, and how their students learn. Towards Ex Ante Prediction Of User Performance: A Novel Neurois Methodology Based On Real-Time Measurement Of Mental Effort, Ricardo Buettner, Sebastian Sauer, Christian Maier, Andreas Eckhardt Jan 2015

Towards Ex Ante Prediction Of User Performance: A Novel Neurois Methodology Based On Real-Time Measurement Of Mental Effort, Ricardo Buettner, Sebastian Sauer, Christian Maier, Andreas Eckhardt

Christian Maier

We propose a methodology of an ex ante prediction of users’ performance based on analyzing the pupillary diameter variability captured by ordinary eye-tracking systems. Based on a realistic large-scale experimental evaluation of our methodology we show promising results that pave the way for a dynamic real-time adaption of IT to the user’s mental effort and the expected user performance. Our non-invasive contactfree methodology can be applied cost-efficiently both in research and practical environments, without disturbing the participant/user.

The Effects Of Technostress And Switching Stress On Discontinued Use Of Social Networking Services: A Study Of Facebook Use, Christian Maier, Sven Laumer, Christoph Weinert, Tim Weitzel

Christian Maier

Although much research has been performed on the adoption and usage phases of the information systems life cycle, the final phase, termination, has received little attention. This paper focuses on the development of discontinuous usage intentions, i.e. the behavioural intention in the termination phase, in the context of social networking services (SNSs), where it plays an especially crucial role. We argue that users stressed by using SNSs try to avoid the stress and develop discontinuous usage intentions, which we identify as a behavioural response to SNS-stress creators and SNS-exhaustion. Furthermore, as discontinuing the use of an SNS also takes effort …

Link Formation Pattern During Emergency Response Network Dynamics, Alireza Abbasi

Alireza Abbasi

This study aims to understand the mechanisms of emergency response network evolution by quantitatively examining the link formation pattern among participants involved in a real emergency collaboration network. This is achieved by identifying the participants’ characteristics which can affect forming new links over time. The result indicates the existence of cumulative advantage process, where highly-connected participants gain more new links over time. It also reveals the structural position of participants involved in a response network, i.e. brokering position, affects their number of future links. Understanding the link formation pattern is important for understanding the mechanisms of network evolution which help …

Keri Schwab

Where does Dr. Austin want his line of thought to lead and what does he expect from the larger field of parks and recreation in return? Is he after reassurance that recreational therapy is valued by the rest of us? Does he want recreation therapists to be acknowledged as the closest thing we have in our midst to medical doctors? Or does he want recreational therapy to disassociate itself from the field of parks and recreation altogether? If recreation therapists want to be viewed as distinct and different from the rest of us, if it is autonomy they are after, …

Landing Stable Employment: The Exploratory Study Of A Job Vs. Career, Valencia Tamir Johnson Dr.

Valencia T Johnson

Landing stable employment can be difficult and discouraging. Some employers want applicants that are searching for a “career”, and some employers are looking for applicants that want a “job”. Ask yourself, what is the difference between a job and a career? In simple terms, a job is short-term and a career is long-term. Applicants who seek a job would likely stay less than a year, as with a career, the candidate would likely stay more than a year or longer. This article provides a clear and concise overview of the exploratory study of landing a career or job.

An Affordable Model For Enduring Iss Mission Operations With Increased Scientific Productivity, Donovan Torgerson, Josh Berk, Jeremy Straub, Anders Nervold Sep 2013

An Affordable Model For Enduring Iss Mission Operations With Increased Scientific Productivity, Donovan Torgerson, Josh Berk, Jeremy Straub, Anders Nervold

Jeremy Straub

The current model of operations for the International Space Station (ISS) is an exercise in futility. Persistent maintenance, risk aversion, high ground support and logistics costs and a lack of scientific productivity have rendered the world's most expensive laboratory severely underutilized.

An alternate management paradigm for ISS operations, based upon an approach utilized by national, state and local governments for the maintenance of public infrastructure (e.g., roadways) is presented. These governments, instead of trying to become experts at estimating the costs of, planning for and conducting repairs and upkeep on this infrastructure, instead hire a commercial vendor to perform these …

Polska Firma It W Dolinie Krzemowej – Studium Przypadku I Próba Analizy W Kontekście Teorii Internacjonalizacji, Dominika Latusek

Dominika Latusek

The text presents a case study of a Polish high-tech enterprise “Engineers” which focuses on IT services and software development. The case study is based on a qualitative research conducted within the firm in its headquarter in Poland as well as in the USA among its partners and customers. The empirical data is then discussed in the light of internationalization theories as well as the concept of ‘born global’ enterprises. As the text demonstrates, the existing internationalization and born global theories cannot provide grounds that explain the functioning of firms such as “Engineers World”, i.e. enterprises that are set up …

Delinquent By Reason Of Poverty, Tamar R. Birckhead

Tamar R Birckhead

This Article, written for the 12th Annual Access to Equal Justice Colloquium, explores the disproportionate representation of low-income children in the United States juvenile justice system. It examines the structural and institutional causes of this development, beginning with the most common points of entry into delinquency court—the child welfare system, public schools, retail stores, and neighborhood police presence. It introduces the concept of needs-based delinquency, a theory that challenges basic presuppositions about the method by which children are adjudicated delinquent. It argues that at each stage of the process—from intake through adjudication to disposition and probation—the court gives as much …
