We propose a methodology of an ex ante prediction of users’ performance based on analyzing the pupillary diameter variability captured by ordinary eye-tracking systems. Based on a realistic large-scale experimental evaluation of our methodology we show promising results that pave the way for a dynamic real-time adaption of IT to the user’s mental effort and the expected user performance. Our non-invasive contactfree methodology can be applied cost-efficiently both in research and practical environments, without disturbing the participant/user.

Although much research has been performed on the adoption and usage phases of the information systems life cycle, the final phase, termination, has received little attention. This paper focuses on the development of discontinuous usage intentions, i.e. the behavioural intention in the termination phase, in the context of social networking services (SNSs), where it plays an especially crucial role. We argue that users stressed by using SNSs try to avoid the stress and develop discontinuous usage intentions, which we identify as a behavioural response to SNS-stress creators and SNS-exhaustion. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Thirty years ago, Dustin and McAvoy (1984) published an essay in Environmental Ethics titled “Toward Environmental Eolithism.” The article compared and contrasted two distinct orientations to environmental planning and management: the design mentality and the eolithic mentality. The authors concluded that the more popular design mentality lacked obscure eolithic mentality was a superior orientation to environmental planning and management. Objective: This study examined the effectiveness of Marlatt's cognitive-behavioral model on increasing self-efficacy in opiate-dependents. Materials & Methods: In a pilot project, 30 opiate-dependent clients of addiction clinics in Khorramabad were randomly assigned to study and control groups. The study group went through 12 sessions of cognitive behavioral therapy; an overall 24 hours. The control group did not receive any special treatment. All the participants completed the self-efficacy questionnaire at the beginning and end of treatment. Analysis of covariance was used to analyze data. Results: Findings showed significant differences between the two groups after intervention. Conclusions: According to the findings …

This study aims to understand the mechanisms of emergency response network evolution by quantitatively examining the link formation pattern among participants involved in a real emergency collaboration network. This is achieved by identifying the participants’ characteristics which can affect forming new links over time. The result indicates the existence of cumulative advantage process, where highly-connected participants gain more new links over time. The aim of the study was to identify the unique support needs and preferences of African refugees in Canada. In-depth interviews were conducted with Sudanese and Somali refugees (n=68) living in two cities in central and western Canada. Refugees were interviewed individually to identify their support needs, current sources of support, available support programmes, barriers to access to support resources, and preferred support interventions. These refugees reported major support needs, depleted social networks, and barriers to accessing services and supports.
