This study is a content analysis of a collection of several hundred Army manuals published by the War Department, the precursor of the United States Department of Defense (U.S. War Department, 2013). The manuals were in varying conditions, address a variety of topics, and were published in years surrounding and during World War II.

Since the end of the Second World War some 70 years ago, research and scholarship featuring wartime contributions of the average British citizenhasfocused largely on men's experiences of combat, the various roles of government agencies, or the assumed viability and tenacity of political and military leaders. The role of gender in the experience of war was often a side-note, not a focus of research. Since the 1960s, and more frequently since the late 1980s, a new wartime perspective has begun to be documented and explored in academic and literary scholarship - that of British women.

With the passing of the USA Patriot Act in 2001 following the events of 9/11, libraries on the national scale have had to staunchly defend issues of privacy and confidentially more-so than ever before. Evidence of this lies not only in statements within the ALA’s Resolution on the USA PATRIOT Act and Libraries but also in other core documents which guide policy development in public libraries (ALA 2005). Intellectual Freedom and privacy are two of the major issues addressed and protected by the American Library Association through the Office of Intellectual Freedom and the Library Bill of Rights (ALA 1996).

This article introduces the American Association of Colleges and University’s (AAC& U) Value Rubrics to smaller colleges and describes how the Value Rubrics (2009) offered free to download from the AAC&U website may be used as effective assessment tools in academic and information literacy courses and programs on their campuses. This article also describe why and how a small Kansas college has proceeded to use the AAC&U Value Rubrics alongside the SAILS pre- and post-test to assess a for-credit information literacy course offered to undergraduate students.

The Qualitative Data Repository (QDR) provides infrastructure and guidance for the sharing and reuse of digital data used in qualitative and multi-method social inquiry. In this paper we describe some of the repository’s early experiences providing services developed specifically for the curation of qualitative research data. We focus on QDR’s efforts to address two key challenges for qualitative data sharing. The first challenge concerns constraints on data sharing in order to protect human participants and their identities and to comply with copyright laws. Within libraryland social media this past spring and summer, an emerging story began to unfold. A relatively new upstart company, Reveal Digital has begun developing digital archives of primary resources which are funded by institutions pledging upfront support. The eventual result of this work will be collections made available as Open Access content to everyone. The majority of the content is being sourced from research libraries’ archival collections. Those pledging money get early access to the content as it is being digitized and made available. In addition, source libraries obtain digital copies that they can dark archive. The Basic Access Model (BAM) provides a reasonable and practical framework of business terms for libraries and vendors to agree on how to facilitate user access to digital content for content mining purposes, as well as a principled and agreed upon industry foundation for future cooperation. BAM has already opened up significant content for mining access. The sooner we can open up our collections—both as libraries and as vendors—to the new and emerging tools and methods of content mining researchers, the more relevant we and our collections will be.

The purpose of this study was to examine the scholarly educational and library and information science (LIS) literature related to reluctant readers. It sought to determine the publication trend over time, core journals, and the age group that was the focus of the articles. The study included other demographic characteristics such as gender or ethnicity and resources or strategies to engage reluctant readers.

Assessing The High School Graphic Novel Collections In Northeast Mississippi High Schools: A Collection Analysis, Nicole Minor

This study examines graphic novels collections with genres and themes that may be appealing to both males and females in six Northeastern Mississippi high schools as well as how many (and what percentage) of these items are on YALSA’s “Great Graphic Novels for Teens” lists from 2010 through 2015 in both nonfiction and fiction.

While MS Code 43-21-321(5)(i) requires juvenile detention centers to make reading materials available to delinquents, it fails to define specifics about the types of reading materials to which youth are to have access. Likewise, while the Robertson and Dunaway (2006) report identified facilities that provided materials and levels of access, it fell short of providing specific information on the reading materials available in the juvenile detention centers because it was not within the scope of the report.
