Abstract

Purpose – In this paper, a call to the library and information science community to support documentation and conservation of cultural and biocultural heritage has been presented.

Design/methodology/approach – Based in existing Literature, this proposal is generative and descriptive— rather than prescriptive—regarding precisely how libraries should collaborate to employ technical and ethical best practices to provide access to vital data, research and cultural narratives relating to climate.

It is also essential at the same time to understand the library subscription quality. In this article, an attempt has been made to map the faculty and research scholarly journal publications and the library E-journals subscription. On February 28, 2019, the University of California (UC) System announced the cancellation of their $50 million journal subscription deal with Elsevier. The impetus behind the UC decision comes from two issues. Firstly, the increasing costs of journal subscriptions in a landscape where library budgets remain flat. Secondly, the effort to shift the journal publishing model away from subscriptions to a sustainable open access model. This presentation explores the challenges that librarians and graduate schools face in encouraging open access behaviours. While librarians realize the benefits of open access research for both current students and society as a whole, many disparate factors often converge, causing academic departments to actively counteract open access research practices. While librarians, researchers, and the general public have embraced the concept of Open Access (OA), librarians still have a difficult time managing OA resources. To find out why, Bulock and Hosburgh surveyed librarians about their experiences managing OA resources and the strengths and weaknesses of management systems. At this session, they shared survey results, reflected on OA workflows at their own libraries, and updated audience members on relevant standards and initiatives. Survey respondents reported challenges related to hybrid OA, inaccurate metadata, and inconsistent communication along the serials supply chain. This close relationship has led to the emergence of content platforms that are designed to operate under either use case, however, the missions and requirements of the two types of program differ. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine recent trends that have affected University Presses. The increased reliance on digital resources and fiscal constraints within higher education has forced University Presses to re-evaluate their position with the scholarly communication system. Responses include an increased focus on partnerships, new forms of publication, changing business models, and better meeting customers’ needs.

Design/Methodology/Approach – The authors have reviewed publications on University Presses from the last five years and added their viewpoints on current and future trends.
