Following the trend of repurposing library space to meet modern user needs, Western University is undergoing a planned revitalization and renovation of its largest library on campus. As a result, 500,000 items will need to be shifted to other locations or off-site storage. Language Documentation In The Aftermath Of The 2015 Nepal Earthquakes: A Guide To Two Archives And A Web Exhibit, Kristine A. Hildebrandt, Tanner Burge-Beckley, Jacob Sebok

SIUE Faculty Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity

We describe two institutionally related archives and an online exhibit representing a set of Tibeto-Burman languages of Nepal. These archives and exhibit were built to house materials resulting from documentation of twelve Tibeto-Burman languages in the aftermath of the 2015 Nepal earthquakes. This account includes a detailed discussion of the different materials recorded, and how they were prepared for the collections. This account also provides a comparison of the two different types of archives, the different but complementary functions they serve, and a discussion of the role that online exhibits can play in the context of language documentation archives.

Digital librarians work to balance the sometimes competing goals of stewardship and access all while being responsive to the needs of patrons, content owners, and creators. This presentation explores the often unforeseen challenges and issues that can arise with the creation and management of digital collections. While ingesting digitized works into a repository brings up ever-present concerns such as copyright, others challenges exist within the realm of privacy (stalking, harassment, digital anonymity), plagiarism, and ownership (false claims of ownership) that are almost always unexpected.

Self-migrating assets and metadata from one digital asset management system (DAMS) to another is a large undertaking. This is particularly the case for a small academic library without IT support. At Loyola Marymount University's William H. Hannon Library, we recently self-migrated from CONTENTdm to the Adam Matthew Digital Quartex platform. Through this experience, we learned several important outcomes in assessing and processing the digital assets and metadata for the new system. S&DI assessed Digital Collections when the William H. Hannon Library CONTENTdm instance became unsupported. Quartex has changed library's capability to manage digital assets, unify workflows with Archives and Special Collections, and provide patrons with a dynamic experience with a modern interface. William H. Hannon Library selected Quartex, a fully-hosted solution, because its potential to develop a Digital Collection with greater UI and UX. In addition, Quartex, unlike many systems, allows for the ingest of different types of formats, including video formats. A team of Bryant University Librarians are participating in the EXCITE Transformation for Libraries program through the Connecticut State Library. We conducted a series of structured group and one-on-one conversations with students, faculty, and staff in order to learn about how they think and feel about teamwork, the library, and collaboration at the library. We found that students in particular were far more responsive to community sessions than in taking surveys.

The paper identifies the perception and use of Semantic and Social Features of the digital library among library and Information professionals (LISPs) and Users and presents a comparative study of their competencies in tune with the semantic and social features. As part of the survey of the special libraries in NCR of Delhi, the questionnaires and personal visits were made to 48 libraries (spread over 16 categories) to collect the primary data. In this paper, we discuss possible pedagogical applications for virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR), within a humanities/social sciences curriculum, articulating a critical need for academic libraries to collect and curate 3D objects. We contend that building infrastructure is critical to keep pace with innovative pedagogies and scholarship. We offer theoretical avenues for libraries to build a repository 3D object files to be used in VR and AR tools and sketch some anticipated challenges. Data Collection Curated With An Application Ontology Describes The Methods And Results Upon Performing An Ex-Vivo Voltage-Clamp Assay On Outer Hair Cells Of The Mammalian Cochlea, Brenda Farrell, Jason Bengtson

Research Data

This data collection describes the electrical properties of outer hair cells isolated from the mammalian cochlea of the domestic guinea pig. This data was obtained by performing whole-cell patch clamp voltage clamp assay on cells and monitoring the electrical admittance during a DC voltage ramp. The membrane capacitance was then calculated at each membrane potential from this admittance, and the voltage-independent and voltage-dependent membrane capacitance was determined upon further analysis. In some case the DC conductance was also measured by interrogation of the cell with voltage-step function which was calculated from the change in the mean steady-state current with respect …
