DataQ is an IMLS­-funded project led by the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries, GWLA, and GPN to develop an online knowledge-­base of research data questions and answers curated for and by the library community. Publicly submitted questions to DataQ are reviewed by an Editorial Team of experts from 15 institutions across the United States. The site also includes links to resources, best practices, and practical approaches to working with researchers to address specific research data issues. This update from members of the Editorial Team will discuss outcomes and future directions following the first year of the DataQ project.

Oa In The Library Collection: The Challenges Of Identifying And Maintaining Open Access Resources, Nathan Hosburgh, Chris Bulock

While librarians, researchers, and the general public have embraced the concept of Open Access (OA), librarians still have a difficult time managing OA resources. To find out why, Bulock and Hosburgh surveyed librarians about their experiences managing OA resources and the strengths and weaknesses of management systems. At this session, they shared survey results, reflected on OA workflows at their own libraries, and updated audience members on relevant standards and initiatives. Survey respondents reported challenges related to hybrid OA, inaccurate metadata, and inconsistent communication along the serials supply chain. This poster presentation from the May 2015 Florida Library Association Conference, along with the Everglades Explorer discovery portal at http://ee.fiu.edu, demonstrates how traditional bibliographic and curatorial principles can be applied to: 1) selection, cross-walking and aggregation of metadata linking end-users to wide-spread digital resources from multiple silos; 2) harvesting of select PDFs, HTML and media for web archiving and access; 3) selection of CMS domains, sub-domains and folders for targeted searching using an API.

This slide presentation gives a very brief overview of the development of the Web from its inception as ARPANET to the Semantic Web. The presentation then discusses Linked Data and its uses on the Web. It also gives a scenario of how linked data would work in libraries and its potential to expand access to library resources by making them discoverable through Web search engines such as Google. The presentation focuses on the metadata transition necessary to accomplish this type of global access.

Streaming The Archives: Repurposing Systems To Jumpstart A Media Digitization Program, Talea Anderson

Presenting lessons learned by the archives at Central Washington University during the first year of its new media digitization program. This poster, presented in 2015 at ACRL's national conference, demonstrates how the archives jumpstarted its program by using available systems--an institutional repository and cloud-based streaming service--to disseminate digitized media. The poster presents advantages and disadvantages uncovered while using these repurposed systems, including consequences for metadata, workflow, interoperability, and discoverability.

New Services To Enhance A Health Care Network's Reputation: Digital Commons At Lvhn, A Health Network Experience, Kristine A. Petre Mls, Cm, Ahip

Live for a little over two years, Lehigh Valley Health Network’s repository, LVHN Scholarly Works, has enhanced the Network’s reputation and research credibility by increasing the visibility of its scholarship. In addition to enhancing the Network’s reputation, LVHN Scholarly Works has been instrumental in saving time and easing workflows for several of its residency programs as well as for ACGME accreditation, and has even contributed to filling in missing pieces of institutional history. As the initiative moves forward, the library continues to look for ways to further increase the visibility of LVHN’s scholarship and help to solve other challenges.

This book chapter examines two futures for academic librarians working in access (technical) services: deeper collaboration on data management with faculty and student researchers and expanded access to library resources on the Semantic Web. Both are concerned with data organization, discovery, access, and support of shared data beyond the library. The chapter examines many aspects of research data from the perspectives of researchers and librarians.
