Workshop on data documentation, analysis & statistical software delivered online to the University of Central Florida (UCF)’s graduate students. This workshop is conducted by a Statistician at the College of Medicine and the Metadata Librarian at UCF. It includes five modules which focus on data basics, data documentation, dataset metadata, data analysis and statistical software. The data basics section introduces data, research data and dataset, the need for documenting and preserving research data. The data documentation and dataset metadata sections touch on researchers’ data practices and offer some general recommendations for a researcher’s research lifecycle. After years of looking for funding, in 2013 USC Libraries was awarded a grant from the Gaylord & Donnelly Foundation to scan and geo-rectify the South Carolina historical aerial photographs from 1930-1980s. This presentation, given at the Digital Library Federation Forum in 2016, documents the efforts to receive funding and the process of bring these photographs online for users. Thanks to Bill Sudduth of Government Information for his efforts in continuing this process.

The search for alternatives to high priced textbooks endures. The librarians at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, with the help of an IMLS Sparks! Ignition grant, decided to jump into the fray by creating the Open Access Course Reserves. It is a publicly available, curated repository that provides ready-made reading lists of free, copyright compliant (open access when possible), educational materials. The materials are selected to match typical syllabi and textbook contents and organized by discipline and course. This presentation describes the process of organizing, describing, and digitizing one of Santa Clara University's most important archival collections, the Mission Santa Clara manuscripts, a wide-ranging group of records, journals, correspondence and documents. The collection provides a view of the early days of colonization in the Santa Clara Valley and the growth of the mission culture.
