As our society continues to evolve at an ever-increasing rate, our higher education institutions, and the services they provide, must keep pace with societal changes in order to ensure that those services stay current and relevant. This program evaluation examines one such service, the research consultation model in University Libraries at the University of Denver. East Tennessee State University, located in Johnson City, Tennessee, serves a growing number of students from various backgrounds. Sherrod Library serves as the main campus library and is located at the heart of campus. The library contains other services such as Information Technology Services, tutoring, and is the temporary home of numerous university support services. This past Fall, Sherrod repurposed a first-floor space to serve as walk-in reference. This new service model is staffed by two new faculty librarians, Evan Schmoll and Sara Maeve Whisnant, both with prior reference experience at other institutions.

Information literacy skills are essential to building lifelong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In Fall 2016 the library research consultation service was incorporated into a newly launched engagement program required of all business majors to develop career readiness competencies. This project lead to improvements in service logistics and a rise in research consultations. Outlook on the program and future efforts to integrate the IL Framework into the research consultation will be discussed.
