Exploring Artifacts And Documents In Collective Creativity Workshops Applied To Future Studies, Mathilde Sarré-Charrier
Proceedings from the Document Academy
In a context of uncertainty, organizations use creativity methods to anticipate future challenges in relations with the long-term evolutions of the society. These approaches consist in bringing together people with complementary points of view to multiply the diversity of ideas. This paper focuses on the process of transformation and selection of ideas and artifacts from a collective perspective in the unprecedented circumstances that occurred during the pandemic.
We question how ideas are grounded in the documents and artifacts produced at the key moments of the creative process from the perspective of the facilitators and the participants.
In this paper we …

Understanding The Importance Of Creativity Towards Psychological Safety In The Library Workplace, Jennifer Hopwood Ed.D.
School of Information Student Research Journal
Employee Engagement is one of the leading factors toward organizational success. Happier employees are engaged employees. However, employees cannot reach engagement unless there are feelings of psychological safety. One tool that libraries can utilize to increase the engagement of their staff is to invest in opportunities for workplace creativity.
The Rise Of Creative Class In Library: A Chinese Perspective, Lingdan Song
The Rise Of Creative Class In Library: A Chinese Perspective, Lingdan Song
Proceedings of the IATUL Conferences
Library has responded to the rapid change of social development by expanding its role from a physical place of collections to a space supporting the creative process. Florida proposed 3T (technology, talent and tolerance) to be key factors triggering creativity for a region. Based on this theory, this paper elaborates on the academic library as “creative center” who offers attractions for the patrons by exploring specific examples in China, concluding the Chinese library advancing innovation from these three dimensions. Automatic Mapping System between DDC and CLC, Academic Resource Map, the people-oriented atmosphere and activity fostering creativity, like the maker spaces, …

Somewhere Between Rational And Irrational: Creativity In The Graduate Research Process And Its Implications For Librarians, Kelly Hangauer
Somewhere Between Rational And Irrational: Creativity In The Graduate Research Process And Its Implications For Librarians, Kelly Hangauer
Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students
Scholars analyzing the relationship between creativity and graduate research have tended to be PhD supervisors and psychologists. Using qualitative research methods and personal insights, these authors have looked closely at what creativity in the research process entails, and have called on supervisors to more effectively, and explicitly, foster creativity in graduate student research. Within this scholarly conversation, the teaching and support services of librarians have been largely overlooked.
This presentation contends that librarians are ideal collaborators for the development of creativity in graduate research. What’s more, a review of the doctoral education literature reveals ample opportunity for librarians to engage. …

Asserting Librarian Expertise And Value In Strategic Marketing Efforts, Memo Cordova, Elizabeth Ramsey
Library Faculty Publications and Presentations
This case study of librarian-led marketing efforts at a mid-size academic library examines workarounds to obstacles that librarians frequently encounter when taking on marketing for their libraries. These obstacles often stem from a combination of misunderstanding and/or misplaced priorities at both the unit and administrative levels. Challenges in this case study include a number of factors: no marketing strategy at the administrative level, a lack of understanding from colleagues generally, little time to complete tasks or improve marketing skills, and no dedicated funding. To address these challenges the authors embarked on an internal marketing campaign engaged extensively on social media …

Understanding Collaborative Sensemaking For System Design — An Investigation Of Musicians' Practice, Nadia Conroy
Understanding Collaborative Sensemaking For System Design — An Investigation Of Musicians' Practice, Nadia Conroy
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
There is surprisingly little written in information science and technology literature about the design of tools used to support the collaboration of creators. Understanding collaborative sensemaking through the use of language has been traditionally applied to non-work domains, but this method is also well-suited for informing hypotheses about the design collaborative systems. The presence of ubiquitous, mobile technology, and development of multi-user virtual spaces invites investigation of design which is based on naturalistic, real world, creative group behaviors, including the collaborative work of musicians. This thesis is considering the co-construction of new (musical) knowledge by small groups. Co-construction of new …

Library Information Resources And Services Utilization As Correlates Of Creativity Of Senior Administrative Staff Of Polytechnics In South West, Nigeria, Ganiyu Idowu Buhari
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Preliminary investigation into our institutions of higher learning revealed an ugly situation characterized by regular students’ unrest and even unnecessary labour agitations resulting in occasional closure of the institutions, polytechnics inclusive.
This unhealthy situation provides an important background for undertaking a research on the effect of library information resources and services utilization on the creativity of the people in charge of the institutions’ affairs. This study therefore looked into the library information resources and services utilization as correlates of creativity of senior administrative staff of polytechnics in South-west, Nigeria. A single stage random sampling technique was adopted to draw a …

The “Aha!” Moment: Library Support For The Cognitive Process Of Creativity, Carla-Mae Crookendale
VCU Libraries Faculty and Staff Presentations
Research on creativity in the field of cognitive psychology suggests that creativity is a process, and therefore success in creativity is less about talent or temperament than about the ability to manage that process. Creativity is necessary for all disciplines, though those in art and design fields tend to be more focused on it as an everyday practice.
This poster gives an overview of a session on creativity designed for “Advance Your Research,” a workshop provided by VCU Libraries for graduate students and advanced researchers. Through the in-person session and following webinar the visual arts librarian sought to familiarize attendees …

Constructing Creativity: Wisdom In Everyday Problem Solving, Audrey Defrank, Nicholas J. Arreola, Roni Reiter-Palmon
Constructing Creativity: Wisdom In Everyday Problem Solving, Audrey Defrank, Nicholas J. Arreola, Roni Reiter-Palmon
Criss Library Faculty Proceedings & Presentations
Creativity is conceptualized as an idea or product that is both original and high in quality (Amabile, 1996). Researchers have sought to better understand the creative process by examining predictors of creative outcomes. Wisdom may play a predictive role in this process. According to Webster (2003), wisdom is the competency in, and application of, critical life experiences to optimize development of the self, as well as others. Research has suggested that wisdom supports creativity at an implicit level (Sternberg, 1985, 1999), and contributes to creative achievements (Helson & Srivastava, 2002).
Process models of creativity have sought to demonstrate cognitive operations …

Ambient Intelligence With Wireless Grid Enabled Applications: A Case Study Of The Launch And First Use Experience Of Wejay Social Radio In Education, Helen Patricia Mckenna
School of Information Studies - Dissertations
Wireless grid and ambient intelligent (AmI) environments are characterized as supportive of collaboration, interaction, and sharing. The conceptual framework advanced for this study incorporated the constructs of innovation, creativity and context awareness while offering emergence theory -- emergent properties, structures, patterns and behaviors -- to frame and investigate a wireless grid enabled social radio application which was theorized to be potentially transformative and disruptive. The unintended consequences and unexpected possibilities of wireless grid and smart environments were also addressed.
Using a single case study, drawing upon multiple data collection methods, this research investigated the deployment and use experience of …
