Education Needs In Research Data Management For Science-Based Disciplines: Self-Assessment Surveys Of Graduate And Faculty At Two Public Universities, Judith E. Pasek, Jennifer Mayer Oct 2019

Education Needs In Research Data Management For Science-Based Disciplines: Self-Assessment Surveys Of Graduate And Faculty At Two Public Universities, Judith E. Pasek, Jennifer Mayer

University Libraries Publications

Research data management is a prominent and evolving consideration for the academic community, especially in scientific disciplines. This research study surveyed 131 graduate students and 79 faculty members in the sciences at two public doctoral universities to determine the importance, knowledge, and interest levels around research data management training and education. The authors adapted 12 competencies for measurement in the study. Graduate students and faculty ranked the following areas most important among the 12 competencies: ethics and attribution, data visualization, and quality assurance. Graduate students indicated they were least knowledgeable and skilled in data curation and re-use, metadata and data …

Towards An Institutional Research Data Policy: Taking A Journey At Singapore Management University, Danping Dong, Pin Pin Yeo Sep 2019

Towards An Institutional Research Data Policy: Taking A Journey At Singapore Management University, Danping Dong, Pin Pin Yeo

Research Collection Library

In recent years, there has been growing interest on Research Data Management, not only from the academic community but also from governments, funders, publishers and research institutions. Research data is increasingly recognized as a valuable output arising out of research activities therefore an asset. It is recognized as a critical evidence in supporting and validating published research claims in the light of an imminent ‘reproducibility crisis’ in some scientific disciplines.

In this presentation, we will share the experiences and learnings in developing and supporting the implementation of a Research Data Policy at Singapore Management University (SMU) in collaboration with our …

The evolution of scholarly research raises questions regarding the role of research libraries in the 21st century. As information and data have taken on new forms, researchers and libraries alike have adapted their skills and services to reflect changes in how information and research are created and conducted, disseminated, and preserved – throughout shifting social and philosophical paradigms as well as in response to emerging technologies. As such, librarianship is an ever-changing field that has advanced to include data management skills as a core competency. Unfortunately, perceptions of the LIS field have not kept up with the pace of its …

Jumpstarting Research Data Management (Rdm) Services: Lessons Learned From Participating At The 2018 Dlf E-Research Network Program, Benjamin H. Saracco, Shilpa Rele, Stephen Robishaw Aug 2019

The Digital Library Federation E-research Network (DLF eRN) is a six-month program that brings together teams from research-supporting libraries to strengthen and advance their organizational data services and digital scholarship roles. Stakeholders from Rowan University (RU) Libraries and the Division of University Research participated in the 2018 cohort and developed strategies and documentation to guide the implementation of RDM at RU. The following materials were drafted and will be implemented in the coming months: A roadmap for RDM services, a data dictionary for research data sets, a survey instrument for an environmental scan, and an IRB application.

Uq Library's Journey Towards Fair Research Outputs - Advancement Of Research Data Management And Digitisation Services, Rebecca Deuble, Mandy Swingle, Dulcie Stewart, Fei Yu Aug 2019

Uq Library's Journey Towards Fair Research Outputs - Advancement Of Research Data Management And Digitisation Services, Rebecca Deuble, Mandy Swingle, Dulcie Stewart, Fei Yu

Proceedings of the IATUL Conferences

The growth of data and technology has deeply impacted on the ways that scientific research are practiced, bringing new challenges to academic libraries. In Australia, the recent worldwide movement to FAIR – findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable - research, has seen institutions shift towards developing relevant policies and standards, so as to remain competitive in the global economy.

This paper will discuss how The University of Queensland (UQ) Library has taken significant steps to achieving the FAIR principles for research outputs, within Digitisation and Research Data Management (RDM) services.

The institutional repository, UQ eSpace is critical in supporting these services. …

Data Management Plans And Dmptool, Stacy L. Winchester Jul 2019

Data Management Plans And Dmptool, Stacy L. Winchester

Faculty and Staff Publications

Many federal and private funders require a Data Management Plan, or DMP, as part of the grant application process. The University Libraries at the University of South Carolina provide a number of resources and services to faculty and students who need to write plans, including online guides, sample DMPs, and consultations. This presentation, from a workshop titled “Data Management Plans and DMPTool,” walks researchers through the history and components of Data Management Plans and exposes them to available resources, including DMPTool, an online tool that helps researchers write plans that meet specific funder requirements.

Research Data Management (Rdm) Capabilities At The University Of Ghana, Legon, Bright Kwaku Avuglah, Peter G. Underwood Apr 2019

Research Data Management (Rdm) Capabilities At The University Of Ghana, Legon, Bright Kwaku Avuglah, Peter G. Underwood

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The purpose of this study was to assess Research Data Management (RDM) capabilities at the University of Ghana (UG). The study focused on four key capability elements: policy framework, technological infrastructure, skills and knowledge, and support services. It explored the extent to which RDM is embedded in research practices at UG and provides insight into the preparedness of UG to develop RDM. A qualitative case study method was adopted for the study and data was gathered using semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The instrument for the assessment was informed by the Collaborative Assessment for Research Data Infrastructure and Objectives (CARDIO) …
