Introduction
The Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library, at The George Washington University, introduced Health Information @ Himmelfarb, a custom health sciences focused implementation of EBSCO’s Discovery Service (EDS) in the fall of 2012. Less than a year later, the Library Catalog was migrated to Innovative’s Encore. With two different discovery tools delivering some overlapping content and features, librarians wanted to know more about how the two services were being used.
Methods
A Discovery Task Force completed a staff focus group and a brief demographic survey of Health Information @ Himmelfarb users in spring 2015. All library staff who search the services …

Himmelfarb Library Faculty Posters and Presentations
The launch of the revised medical school curriculum in Fall 2014 provided new opportunities for librarians to collaborate with clinical faculty. As a result of our past informatics instruction embedded in the first year curriculum, we were invited to expand this content as part of a new formative Objective Structured Clinical Examination (FOSCE) initiative. Two reference librarians worked closely with faculty to develop original case-based scenarios that were taught by a team of six reference librarians over the course of a year.
In FOSCEs, small groups of students rotated through simulated patient encounters in order to demonstrate their clinical knowledge …

Jefferson Digital Commons News
Jefferson Medical College yearbooks (published under various titles) are a rich source of Jefferson history. Scott Memorial Library and University Archives and Special Collections have been preserving the yearbooks by digitizing and uploading them to the Jefferson Digital Commons. Yearbooks from 1899 to 1960 were digitized previously and ten more years have been completed and added to the JDC in the latest phase of the project.

Academic Commons and Scott Memorial Library Staff Papers and Presentations
Internet provides access to large amounts of information quickly, provides a flexible learning platform, and is easily accessible from anywhere, especially with new technologies. Web-based search engines and bibliographic databases, have already become part of a doctor's everyday life. However, even well-published researchers often fail to appreciate the background knowledge required to conduct a good literature search on the internet. Using the right techniques can improve the ability to search for relevant information This chapter briefly outlines the internet as an information resources such as Google, Google Scholar, PubMed, Cochrane for orthopedic surgeons. Also the subsequent sections of the chapter …

Access to health-care information for citizens is a key determinant to reach both the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the emerging post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, but this challenge has repeatedly been relegated to the sidelines.1 What might kickstart progress? An obvious candidate is the mobile phone, which is becoming ubiquitous in low-income and middle-income countries.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The Institutional Review Board (IRB), also known as an Independent Ethics Committee (IEC), is the most widely adopted process to insure human participant protection. The IRB system is overburdened as human research studies and human participation has dramatically increased without a corresponding increase in reviewing clinicians or ethics staff. Librarian involvement in the IRB process is evident but uneven and unstudied on an international scale. A literature review and international survey attempted to provide professional practice context and librarian reflection on the extent of their involvement, roles, and responsibilities in the IRB or IEC institutional process. Survey results reveal that …

A Thematic Study Of Islamic Perspectives In Scopus Indexed Articles. Implications On Medical Imaging., Zainul Ibrahim Zainuddin
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Discussions pertaining to the various Islamic dimensions are actively being undertaken in the media. Within the academic circle, journal articles are accepted as an effective media in the dissemination of knowledge. Articles with Islamic perspectives can be found in disciplines that include Medicine, Banking, Economics and Finance. However, there is little to suggest of the types and frequencies of Islamic perspectives in Medical Imaging. This paper attempts to fill the gap. The methodology involves the use of Scopus database and its interactive search facility. The justification of using Scopus is the user-friendliness of its search interface and the ability to …

New Services To Enhance A Health Care Network's Reputation: Digital Commons At Lvhn, A Health Network Experience, Kristine A. Petre Mls, Cm, Ahip
Department of Education
Live for a little over two years, Lehigh Valley Health Network’s repository, LVHN Scholarly Works, has enhanced the Network’s reputation and research credibility by increasing the visibility of its scholarship. In addition to enhancing the Network’s reputation, LVHN Scholarly Works has been instrumental in saving time and easing workflows for several of its residency programs as well as for ACGME accreditation, and has even contributed to filling in missing pieces of institutional history. As the initiative moves forward, the library continues to look for ways to further increase the visibility of LVHN’s scholarship and help to solve other challenges.
