Print journals collection development has long been an academic librarian role. However, academic libraries are continuously challenged with cost increases, space problems, and the need for relevant collections to support their universities. As a result, academic library print journal collections have declined and online journals, including open access, have taken their place. PSU’s Axe Library faces the challenge of balancing its print and online journal collections to support the university’s discovery and research needs and stay on budget.
