As researchers seek to find ways to manage and openly share their data in compliance with grant requirements, many libraries have developed new services to support these researchers. Archives are no longer closed departments, hoarding their treasures from the world. Archival staff have had to adapt and take advantage of new technologies to disseminate collections to broader audiences. We will showcase four digitized archival collections from Nova Southeastern University’s Archives:

  1. A chronology using the third party app, TimelineJS
  2. An Archives/graduate student collaboration of “Looking Into The Past” photos using geolocational information on Google Maps
  3. A donated collection of underwater slide photography with digitization and taxonomic identification efforts by staff at the NSU Oceanographic Center Library
  4. An Oral Histories project using Kaltura Video Platform

This session will cover the basics of CrossRef membership and DOI deposits, including costs and responsibilities, DOI structure and syntax, technical requirements for manual and automated deposits, recommended workflows, and considerations for Memoranda of Understanding. Presenters will discuss the basics of XSL transformations and provide resources for preparing deposits, including sample stylesheets for journal metadata.

The following presentation offer best practices and guidelines on how to prepare your Digital Commons’ descriptive metadata to be harvested and displayed into the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH).

Attendants will learn how to: 1) customize a metadata upload form in Digital Commons to display specific metadata fields, 2) choose the most appropriate schema to display metadata for particular collections, and 3) map the metadata to the appropriate BePress proprietary schema elements that can display correctly into the Open Archives Initiative (OAI) for harvesting purposes.

Over the last two years, Zach S. As newbies to scholarly communications, Autumn Johnson and Sarah Kirkley launched Savannah State’s repository, Tiger Scholar Commons, in 2015. Using the platform Open Repository, they were involved in all aspects of planning, executing, and promoting the repository within a calendar year. George Washington University Libraries were tasked with transforming support for graduate students while taking into account increasing numbers of online students, off-campus programs, and students working full-time. In addition, due to librarian turnover and other factors, we needed to accomplish our goal with a reduced workforce and without reducing services and instruction to our undergraduate population. The University of Missouri-Kansas City's University Libraries played a major role in starting a campus-wide Graduate Writing Initiative at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The Graduate Writing Initiative is a campus-wide effort to improve the process, quality, and impact of graduate student writing. In response to changing needs of graduate students, the University of North Texas Libraries have created unique services, spaces, and instruction. The transformation began with the recent creation of the Library Research Support Services (LRSS) department, a department focused on serving graduate students. The University of Houston (UH) is a Carnegie-designated Tier One public research university that strives to serve more than 7,000 graduate and professional students. Graduate students have been historically underserved by the UH Libraries, however, in recent years the Libraries have made expanding services to graduate students a strategic initiative.
