Portraits Of Hispanic And/Or Latino Leadership Development In The Military, Michael Lugo
Portraits Of Hispanic And/Or Latino Leadership Development In The Military, Michael Lugo
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Abstract
The study presented denotes a continuous transition among the Hispanic and/or Latino demographics in the military and the cadet accounts of military inequality incidents while in the military (Cabrera et al., 2017; Eckel & King, 2004). To assist Hispanic and/or Latino needs based on demographics and environment (National Center for Education Statistics, 2019). Military leaders contribute to growing a diverse, inclusive, and equitable military force for all ethnic groups. The Department of Defense (DoD) is the most racially and ethnically diverse workplace in the United States (Daniel et al., 2022). Nevertheless, racial/ethnic harassment and discrimination in the military continue …

Library Research and Publications
Librarians wear many hats these days. Whether you are an accidental government information librarian or a seasoned professional, it is good to have several projects in mind that can show your impact. This poster suggests several low effort but high impact projects that highlight both the value of government information and your skills as a govinfo librarian. As a bonus, the poster will also suggest ways to take each quick win to the next level by expanding on what you’ve already done.

Docs For Digital Humanities: An Example That Could Launch New Possibilities, Laura Baker
Docs For Digital Humanities: An Example That Could Launch New Possibilities, Laura Baker
Library Research and Publications
As part of a class on Europe after WWI, the library helped create an interactive assignment in which students looked at geographic and political changes in European countries as a key to understanding the effects of WWI. Based on government publications, students created and annotated digital maps to show how the Treaty of Versailles redrew country boundaries and changed governmental alliances. The library’s government documents collection made the assignment possible.
We describe the project, the outcomes it produced, and most importantly, what it suggests about a burgeoning role for govdocs that could cast the collection in a new light. The …
The Machiavellian Govpub Librarian: The Value Of Internal Promotion Aka How A Politically Unsavvy Librarian Learned The Necessity Of Promoting To Colleagues, Laura Baker
Library Research and Publications
This poster communicates ways and reasons for promoting the government documents collections WITHIN the library and influencing decision makers. Librarians go to great lengths to promote our collections to patrons, but what about to our directors and co-workers? When our library had a change of leadership, our status as a depository was questioned. In the book The Machiavellian Librarian by Aho and Bennet, the editors contend that librarians need to boost their ability to influence decision makers. They suggest that, minus his misanthropic extremes, Machiavelli – a master at politics—has many things to teach others about the fine art of …

No Ir? No Problem: The Resourceful Librarian’S Guide To Archiving Digitized Government Publications With The Internet Archive, Laura Baker
Library Research and Publications
This poster illustrates our practice and process of using the Internet Archive (IA) as a repository for digitized government publications. It shows how libraries without an institutional repository, or those that have an IR but lack support for uploading depository content, can still participate in digitization and preservation programs. By doing so, the library can highlight the value of its depository collection.
To Frame Or Not To Frame: Creating A Metaliteracy Course For Online Ed.D. Students, Melissa D. Atkinson
To Frame Or Not To Frame: Creating A Metaliteracy Course For Online Ed.D. Students, Melissa D. Atkinson
Library Research and Publications
The purpose of this study is to create a course in a learning management system (LMS), Canvas, for online Ed.D. students and determine if the course can improve scores measuring metaliteracy concepts from pretest to posttest. The course assessed knowledge of metaliteracy goals and objectives instead of using the ACRL Framework. This paper reports on the creation of the course, results of the pretest-posttest, a mapping of metaliteracy goals and objectives with the ACRL Framework, and recommendations for including metacognitive practices in library instruction.
The researcher used a quantitative, quasi-experimental, exploratory design and developed a metaliteracy course in the Canvas …

The Relationship Between Metaliteracy Pretest, Posttest, And Metacognitive Strategies For Library Research Skills Scale: Creating A Metaliteracy Course For Online Ed.D. Students, Melissa D. Atkinson
Library Research and Publications
The purpose of this quantitative, quasi-experimental, exploratory study was to create a metaliteracy course for online Ed.D. students and determine if there was a relationship between the Metacognitive Strategies for Library Research Skills Scale, Metaliteracy Pretest, and Metaliteracy Posttest. Library literature is lacking on assessment of information literacy skills as determined by a new term, metaliteracy, and the goals and objectives associated with this new term. A course was created in the researcher’s institution’s learning management system, Canvas, using metaliteracy goals and objectives. The researcher developed a pretest and posttest using the goals and objectives of metaliteracy to assess students’ …

A Survey Of Children’S And Young Adult Literature Collections In Academic Libraries Of Christian Higher Education, Shan Martinez, Melissa D. Atkinson
Library Research and Publications
Children's and young adult literature collections have an important place in an academic library. Most often, these collections go unnoticed by many in academia, who may regard children's literature as irrelevant to the mission of the academic library. In reality, these important collections support institutional curriculum and include interdisciplinary resources used in many academic departments. Findings are reported of a survey conducted of private Christian colleges and universities regarding their management of children's and young adult literature collections which seeks to identify current practices and procedures being utilized. Results from the survey highlight use, promotion, and management.

The university and seminary’s work and workplaces evolve within emerging digital ecologies, such as mobile communication, digital fabrication, and cloud hosting. At Abilene Christian University (ACU) in Abilene, TX, we have driven this transformation of educational spaces and curriculum with 1-to-1 and BYOD smartphone and tablet initiatives, and through construction of an interdisciplinary makerspace. Now our provision of personalized access to Adobe Creative Cloud for all students and faculty is again reorienting library spaces and practices with a focus on User Experience (UX). This paper explores: 1) the relation of UXD to library research and instruction. 2) an ecology for …

Gis Collaborations In Saskatchewan: Sgic And The University Of Saskatchewan Library (Accepted Manuscript Version), Jasmine R. Hoover

GIS (Geographic Information System) libraries face challenges at both ends of the spectrum when it comes to acquiring GIS data. On one hand, the increase in popularity of GIS driven by services like Google Earth, Bing maps, and open data has made large amounts of GIS data freely available to users. On the other hand, specialty GIS data products, often needed by researchers, industry, and government, can be so costly that they are impossible for a library to purchase on its own. In situations like the latter, collaborations often provide the solution for acquiring the necessary GIS data. This report …
