Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The present paper talks about the use of institutional repository software (DSpace) in archiving DICOM images. In the current study, the authors have tried to integrate the DICOM metadata standard with DSpace, which was compatible with DC & OAI PMH. After integrating the DICOM standard with DSpace, and the repository tested with a sample of ten thousand images, the retrieval results using various DICOM tags was very satisfactory. This study paves for the use of OSS in storing and retrieving medical images. Digital Image Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard has become a centre component for making an application nonpartisan …

Removing The Noise From X-Ray Image Using Image Processing Technology: A Bibliometric Survey And Future Research Directions, Ayushi Kamboj, Mrinal Bachute

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The retrieval of superior-quality photographs with a minimal exposure is an interesting subject in radiography. Pre-processing is a key phase in signal and image processing such as healthcare, telecommunications, and satellite, and it focuses on reducing or eliminating the extent of noise in the image. Denoising aids in the recovery of finer data and relevant material. Medical images including ECG, Ultrasound, CT-scan, and X-ray provide incredibly fine data that has to be precise and noise-free in order for the knowledge and aspects of interest to be retained during diagnosis. Various noise reduction technologies for medical images, such as wavelet transform, …

Museums & Community Resilience: Improving Post-Crisis Outreach In Latinx Communities By Combining Library And Museum Practices, Sua Lorena Mendez May 2021

Museums & Community Resilience: Improving Post-Crisis Outreach In Latinx Communities By Combining Library And Museum Practices, Sua Lorena Mendez

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Museums are held in the public trust and are accountable to their communities, including minority groups such as the Latinx population. Despite this, museums struggle to engage with Latinx communities, who are particularly affected during and after a crisis or emergency. Currently, museums do not have professional guidelines on supporting community resilience, or a community’s ability to respond to and recover from a crisis. In contrast, libraries, which function as similar community organizations, have field-wide community resilience plans and professional librarians have actively researched how libraries can assist their communities after a significant crisis. Using a multi-case library and museum …

Adoption Of A Self-Care Therapy Mobile App: Application Of Uses And Gratification Theory, Self-Efficacy, And Response Efficacy, Sue Lim

Theses and Dissertations

This study examines factors that influence people’s decision to adopt a self-care therapy chatbot utilizing the uses and gratification theory, self-efficacy, and response efficacy frameworks. Existing literature has shown a large gap between supply and demand of mental health services as well as major barriers that prevent people from seeking services. Therapy chatbots offer the potential to address the gap and the barriers. This research used Woebot, a widely used and clinical evaluated therapy bot, and examined the influence of 6 uses and obtained gratification variables, two self-efficacy scales, and response efficacy on intentions of use. Quantitative analysis of the …

Using Machine Learning To Predict Super-Utilizers Of Healthcare Services, Kevin Paul Buchan Jr. May 2021

Using Machine Learning To Predict Super-Utilizers Of Healthcare Services, Kevin Paul Buchan Jr.

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

In this dissertation, I aim to forecast high utilizers of emergency care and inpatient Medicare services (i.e., healthcare visits). Through a literature review, I demonstrate that accurate and reliable prediction of these future high utilizers will not only reduce healthcare costs but will also improve the overall quality of healthcare for patients. By identifying this population at risk before manifestation, I propose that there is still time to reverse undesirable healthcare trajectories (i.e., individuals whose clinical risk increases an excessive healthcare and treatment burden) through timely attention and proper care coordination. My dissertation culminates in the delivery of state-of-the-art predictive …

Quantitative Analysis Of Research On Artificial Intelligence In Retinopathy Of Prematurity, Ranjana Agrawal, Manasi Anup Agrawal, Sucheta Kulkarni, Ketan Kotecha, Rahee Walambe

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a disease of the eye and a potential source of blindness in low birth weight preterm infants. It is preventable if diagnosed and treated on time. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has played an important role in developing automated screening systems to assist medical experts. There are many traditional literature review articles available that focus on the scientific content of ROP-AI. The researchers also require a bibliometric analysis to become acquainted with the competing groups and new trends in this field. This paper gives a brief overview of ROP and AI systems for ROP screening with a …

Critical Data Literacy: Addressing Race As A Variable In A Preclinical Medical Education Session, Stacy Brody, Susan Koenig

Himmelfarb Library Faculty Posters and Presentations

At the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library, librarians conduct instruction sessions on various aspects of evidencebased medicine for first- and second-year medical students. One of these sessions, the Chest Pain Formative Observed Simulated Clinical Experience (FOSCE), introduces the Framingham Study, later cohort studies, and the Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) Risk Calculator to first-year medical students. This calculator includes race as an input and over or underestimates risk for certain groups. This session previously mentioned the need to diversify study populations and described the evolution of the algorithm, but it did not highlight these as critical issues for discussion. Beyond noting this …

Highlighting Faculty Research: The Researcher Profile Audit Service From The Himmelfarb Library At The George Washington University, Sara Hoover, Tom Harrod

Himmelfarb Library Faculty Posters and Presentations

Researcher profile systems are web-based tools which attempt to capture the scholarly output of a researcher. Some tools such as Google Scholar profiles and ORCiDs are opt-in systems that researchers must actively create and cultivate. Others such as the Scopus author profile are algorithmically generated and must be claimed by an author and checked for accuracy.

These profiles continue to grow in importance as a way for fellow researchers, potential employers, and possible collaborators to learn about a researcher’s scholarship. Therefore, it’s important for researchers to maintain these profiles and to ensure that they are accurate and complete.

In order …
