A qualitative investigation was conducted to explore the phenomenon of communication apprehension among a purposeful sample of five community college students with high levels of communication apprehension. The phenomenon of Communication Apprehension (CA) is “an individual’s level of fear or anxiety associated with either real or anticipated communication with another person or persons” (Beatty, McCroskey, & Heisel, 1998, p. 197; McCroskey, 1970, p. 269). All individuals experience some level of CA, and between 30% and 40% of individuals are estimated to experience high levels of CA. As one of the most successful organizations on campus for nearly a century, the University of Arkansas debate team created many memories and stories from their time in competition. According to the framework of collective memory, the production and dissemination of these stories is what connects the past, present, and future of a debate team together.

I first reconstruct the history of debate at universities, beginning with development of debate at the University of Cambridge and University of Oxford. I then detail the history of debate and argumentation at American universities, including the first intercollegiate debate in 1881. I then …

A sampling of teachers from two school districts was interviewed to determine the amount of use and factors affecting utilization of ITV programs in the classroom.

The findings revealed a high percentage of teachers using ITV programs in their classes. Physical surroundings had the greatest influence on TV usage. Unavailability of TV sets and poor reception of the TV signal hamper teachers usage of ITV.

The teachers who used ITV incorporated the elements of pre-program preparation of the student: or what they were about to view and follow-up materials after the program.
