Islamophobia And The U.S. Media, Michelle Maria Nichole Diamond
Dissertations and Theses
The following paper examines the growing fear and discrimination currently projected towards Islam and Muslims in the United States. This thesis will specifically focus on what role the U.S. mainstream media has played in either increasing or decreasing Islamophobia amongst the American public post September 11, 2001. The research collected to conduct this study came from theories of political science, conflict resolution, international affairs, psychology, sociology, and personal interviews. I conclude that Islamophobia has increased in the United States since the attacks of September 11, 2001 and that Islamophobia, due to the mainstream media, is more pervasive in the U.S. …

Rogers' diffusion of innovations theoretical framework is being used to analyze the characteristics of this innovation and that of its adopters with particular reference to online news diffusion. Findings indicate that the early adopters tend to be predominantly young male adults located in the higher income regions of the world. Video content posted is predominantly related to arts and entertainment with a substantial minority related to current affairs and politics. While the …

Evolve Or Dissolve: Will The "Extra, Extra" Save The Newspaper?, Elizabeth Ann Moreno
Theses & Dissertations
Newspapers have always been the trusted source of information for many years by many. The Internet and other electronic mediums have tested that tendency in recent years. Newspapers have been making changes and evolving to remain a medium of choice in the 21st century. Due to declines in circulation numbers and instabilities in advertising revenue, newspapers have found new ways to continue to be successful. They have encompassed an online presence by the use of online newspapers, fragmented and localized by the use of niche publications and reached the untouched Hispanic and Mexican market by the use of Spanish-language publications. …

Senior Honors Projects
In the past decade, technology has transformed how society communicates. From the internet to cell phones to iPods and video games, interactive communication has become the norm. At the University of Rhode Island, students adapt quickly to the constantly changing technology. Yet student organizations and the University as a whole have not adapted as quickly to such changes. This has led to an uninformed and uninterested student body when it comes to programming and events on campus. As students instant message on their laptops and text message on their cell phones (simultaneously, of course), organizations, clubs and athletics struggle to …

Media and information literacy perspectives could offer new justification for the expansion of graduate program offerings in a variety of fields. The interdisciplinary field of media and information literacy continues to discover new paths of research. For example, visual literacy, computer advertisements, critical deconstruction of media, distance education, convergence, video games and music videos were some of the topics explored in 2006.
