Indonesian Blogger Communities: Display Of Digital Artefacts As The Legitimate Ruling Mechanism, Endah Triastuti

JURNAL KOMUNIKASI INDONESIA

Currents Of Consumption: How National Narratives Of Japanese Cuisine Collide With Localized Forms Of Sushi In Northern California, John Ostermiller

Master's Projects and Capstones

This paper examines how national narratives of Japanese cuisine collide with the expectations, preferences, and perceptions of American consumers (particularly Northern California). The global economy has benefited the circulation of positive images of Japan managed by the Japanese government, but the commercialization of Japanese cuisine is also at odds with government efforts. In Japan, sushi is often synonymous with nigirizushi: sliced seafood and a daub of wasabi atop vinegared rice. As part of Japan’s washoku tradition, this singular image of sushi (allegedly) reflects the deepest essence of Japanese cultural sensibilities tied to simplicity, perfection, and nature. But in America, consumers’ …

Cold War Ii: Those Evil Russkie He-Men Are Making Us Frack Ourselves,, Michael I. Niman Ph.D.

Michael I Niman Ph.D.

You have to admit, the timing is convenient, both for us handsome free Americans and for the cursed Russians. If you’re Russian, forget about the regular jailing of protesters and musicians, your he-man government and its bizarre hatred of gay folks, the degradation of your environment and rape of your natural resources, and the rise of a billionaire mafioso class. You now have rude hubristic Americans to monopolize your hate and fear. Ditto for Americans. Forget every issue we were fretting about the day before masked, Russian-speaking troops swarmed over the border and “did not invade” Crimea, annexing it and …

Hate, Hegemony And Hooliganism: The Rise Of Far-Right Nationalism In Great Britain, Ben Sprague Apr 2007

Hate, Hegemony And Hooliganism: The Rise Of Far-Right Nationalism In Great Britain, Ben Sprague

Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects

This thesis seeks to examine the impact of far-Right political parties on the British political system. It cites relevant theories of nationalism and provides a brief historical background to frame the analysis of the present case study. Additionally, the work analyzes the British political system to help explain the inability of extremist parties to win a seat in Parliament. This piece argues that far-Right parties in Great Britain, despite their electoral failures and limited membership, have maintained political legitimacy by recruiting marginalized youth and embracing radical methods. These groups, moreover, could gamer more public support with increases in terrorism, levels …
