A Clinical Study Of The Consistency Between Verbal And Behavioral Expressions Of Socio-Economic Attitudes, Elizabeth Lee Downs

Master's Theses

For the promotion of socio-economic programs for relief clients which will be of mutual benefit to the individuals and to society it is necessary to determine the actual attitudes of those individuals toward socio-economic problems. The verbal statements of attitudes toward social, economic and personal problems of relief children of relief parents are inconsistent with and non-indicative of their actual attitudes as revealed by their clinical case studies. The purpose of this study is to discover whether or not such radical differences between verbal and actual attitudes do appear and with sufficient frequency to prevent uncritically the acceptance of verbal …

A high incidence of transient aphasia among its cases has been recognized for some time by the Fort Hays Kansas State College Psychological Clinic. Clinical tests of transient aphasia are a routine part of the Clinic’s psychometric procedure, especially with children showing speech and reading disabilities. Abnormally long eye fixations where the word is known to the subject momentary binocular divergence, periodic eye tremors, blocks in phonation either with or without the usual symptoms of stuttering, superficial appearance of transitory deafness, and various motor blocks have been suspected as being evidence of transient aphasic conditions.

Such media as finger-painting, clay modeling, dramatization and free hand drawing give opportunity for the child to create or objectify his subjective feelings or ideas. By child psychotherapy is meant a method of treatment in readjusting the personality of children. The change in I.Q. means a change in the relation of mental age to …

A Study Of The Propaganda Of The Anti-Saloon League Of America: A Typical Representative Of "The Pressure Group", George M. Winwood

Honors Papers

Democratic government implies that "the people shall rule." This means if it means anything, that public opinion shall found expression in law. The mechanism by which this takes place seems to me to be one of the basic problems of popular government. Democracy without organization is in conceivable and public opinion that is organized is likely to be evanescent and ineffective--a phantom. In a Greek city-state or in a New England town, the determination of the collective will upon a particular problem will occasion no great difficulty. But direct democracy falls down in the face of increasing numbers. The individual …

Certain Problems Of International Law With Reference To China, Agnes Ch'en Fang-Chih Jan 1939

Certain Problems Of International Law With Reference To China, Agnes Ch'en Fang-Chih

Bryn Mawr College Dissertations and Theses

In the present monographs an attempt is made to study certain problems of international law with reference to their application in China. Whatever its pretensions in the realm of theory may be, the ultimate value of international law lies and its actual application by the nations in their relations with one another. As a sovereign state in the community of nations, China is entitled to be treated as the juristic equal of the other member states. Owing to her administrative and military weakness, however, China's jurisdictional rights have been frequently curtailed by the arbitrary sex of the so-called Great Powers. …

The Social And Economic Effects Produced Upon Small Towns By Rapid Industrialization, John Fred Holly Aug 1938

The Social And Economic Effects Produced Upon Small Towns By Rapid Industrialization, John Fred Holly

Masters Theses

Introduction: The introduction of an industry into rural areas or small towns, unless they are mill centers, and the absorption of rural peoples into these industries involve many changes of social and economic significance. The shift from an agricultural to an industrial economy has by its very nature many consequences. This study is an attempt to measure, as far as is possible, the effects of such changes.

The City of Elizabethton, Tennessee underwent a very rapid change beginning in 1925 when the American Bemberg Corporation located a rayon establishment there. With the shift of economy many significant changes occurred. Therefore, …

Development Of Public Assistance In Louisiana., Marianna Evans Jul 1938

Development Of Public Assistance In Louisiana., Marianna Evans

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

The purpose of this study is to show how a public assistance program has developed to meet the needs of a rapidly urbanizing society, and how, in Louisiana, this program has evolved from an incidental, casual, and uncertain activity of local governing units to an integrated, well-organized governmental function.

Legislative provisions for aid to dependent individuals form the base of the study; statistical information concerning the extent of assistance and explanation of the administrative organization of the various public assistance agencies bring out the sociological implications of a public assistance program.

The activities of Louisiana’s unemployment relief agencies of the …

Religious Education In Prisons, John L. Gwin Jun 1938

Religious Education In Prisons, John L. Gwin

Masters Theses

The problem of crime is one of growing importance, and every means available should be used to reform and train the prisoner so that when he leaves the penitentiary he will go out and become a useful member of society. The average age of American prisoners is nineteen years. This means that after a few years most of our prisoners will re-enter society, and certainly it must be possible to do much to help these young people to readjust themselves to our social order.

A Bibliography Of Books And Magazine Articles Pertaining To The History Of Journalism, George Joseph Belhumeur

Bachelors’ Theses

The History of Journalism, whether tied up with men or with newspapers, is of untold value to the practicing journalist. He may find some information that would help in a particular story, but that would seldom happen. Inspiration is the big thing to be had from the histories of Journalism. To know what others have encountered, how they overcame difficulties, how papers have risen and fallen, and why, ---- these will be of incalculable value.
