Creative Spaces In Academic Libraries: Engaging Users Through The Studio Model, Katy Webb
Creative Spaces In Academic Libraries: Engaging Users Through The Studio Model, Katy Webb
ACRL New England Chapter Annual Conference
Makerspaces, digital humanities labs, scholar's labs, and other types of creative spaces in academic libraries envision a renovated room or space in the stacks, install technology, and open it to users. But so often, the librarians and administrators in charge of the renovation of these spaces think that if they build it, people will flock to their doors. Instead of conceiving these spaces as technology depots, engagement strategies and models for staffing must also be considered. The use of the library lab as a studio space will be investigated in this presentation, as well as other models that build toward …

Charting Your Chat: Fostering Employee Engagement With Internal Communication, Lauren Slingluff, Jean Cardinale
ACRL New England Chapter Annual Conference
The pivotal role effective internal communication plays in engaging staff is often underestimated and the hybrid working environment now happening across our institutions, where staff are spread across locations, has reaffirmed its importance. Communicating around strategic initiatives, daily work, and creating human connection requires a deliberate and active plan across the organization. This presentation will share the direct experiences of leadership and staff at the UConn Library and work done to increase engagement through effective internal communication strategies.
Often as managers we hear critiques that communication is lacking or needs improvement. To make meaningful positive change, you need to know …
Collection Development: It's For Everyone, Alice Pearman, Christin Wixson
Collection Development: It's For Everyone, Alice Pearman, Christin Wixson
ACRL New England Chapter Annual Conference
Collection assessment is rising in importance in academic libraries. Identifying gaps in collections, determining which resources are no longer useful, and assessing for diversity, equity and inclusion are all topics of discussion at conferences and in the literature. But why wait to identify the gaps in our collections when we can prevent them now?
Collection development is a skill practiced by most academic subject librarians. However, with many institutions shrinking the number of librarians available to do collection development, not to mention our shrinking materials budgets, this task often doesn't get the attention it deserves.
We will also share how …

Open Access Week
The grand challenges of our day are being met with grand visions for the future. An opportunity sits at the intersection of climate change, open science, and community engagement. This talk speaks to what is distinctive about that opportunity in 2022, especially in light of the fresh directions in U.S. research policy, and offers a case study in what that might look like. Mr. Vandegrift speaks from experience and his recent research, and provides attendees with a foundation and a forecast.

ISCCL Scientific Symposia and Annual General Meetings // Symposiums scientifiques et assemblées générales annuelles de l'ISCCL // Simposios científicos yy las Asambleas Generales Anuales
During the past 50 years, the ISCCL has experienced great shifts in an understanding of cultural landscapes, the approaches to their conservation and protection, and the foundational concept of cultural landscapes themselves. The starting point was in 1971, in a meeting of Fontainebleau, where M. René Pechère led an international group of historic garden landscape architects and other professionals in the creation of a joint ICOMOS / IFLA Committee of Historic Gardens and Sites. While the focus of the original Committee was on classical gardens and their maintenance and protection, this was an important first step in the understanding of …
Correlational Analysis Of Mammals And Residential Land Use: Amherst, Ma, Ella Gutkowski
Correlational Analysis Of Mammals And Residential Land Use: Amherst, Ma, Ella Gutkowski
Massachusetts GIS Day
Mammal diversity varies in different types of land uses. Residential land use oftentimes interferes with the natural occurrence of mammal species. This study conducts a correlational analysis using camera trap data from Excel and land use data in GIS to uncover whether humans have disrupted mammal occurrence in residential land use areas in Amherst, MA. Results reveal that human activity in residential land use areas in Amherst did not strongly influence the occurrence of these mammals.
