Abstract
The study examined the relationship between staff development programmes and service delivery in Imo State Public Library, Owerri. The study was guided by three research questions and three null hypotheses. A census study technique was adopted to cover the entire population of 42 library staff. A correlation research design was adopted for study, while rating scale was used as data collection instrument. The data collected were analyzed using Pearson (r) statistics to answer the research questions. The hypotheses were tested using t-test statistics of simple linear correlation at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that there is a positive …

"Becoming A More Confident Librarian: Practical And Spiritual Steps For Battling Imposter Phenomenon", Savannah Patterson, Ruth Slagle, Amber Wessies
The Christian Librarian
New librarians often feel as though they have something to prove. This desire can lead to feelings of inadequacy and failure in the workplace that manifest as anxiety and fear. The idea that someone is a fraud or only succeeding by luck is called Imposter Phenomenon or Imposter Syndrome. As early career instruction librarians, the authors set out to find tools for dealing with their Imposter Phenomenon. This paper outlines faith-based tools like exercise, counseling, and prayer for managing Imposter Phenomenon. Practical tools such as professional development, mentoring, and communities of practice are explained as solutions for lessening the effects …

This researcher investigated staff training programmes as correlate of service delivery in academic libraries in Imo State. The study was guided by three research questions and three hypotheses. This study adopted correlation design which also involved simple linear method. The population of this study consisted of 316 library staff in the seven tertiary institutions. A sample of 168 library staff used for this study was derived using Taro Yemen’s formula of sampling distribution. Cluster random, proportionate and incidental sampling techniques were adopted. Two instruments (rating scales) were used in this study: Staff Training Scale (STS) and Service Delivery Scale (SDS). …

Without doubt, the increase in ICT has proven a library to be a living and growing organism. Coping with technology changes are the principal driving forces of the emerging information age librarian and it seems most librarians are less equipped through formal training for the technological demand in library services. The study investigated the use of mentoring as a tool for re-skilling the academic librarian in the ICT age. Descriptive survey was adopted for the study and total enumeration was used for the sample as all the librarians in the university were used for the study. The questionnaire was …

Integrating formal management training into library school curriculum has been a topic of discussion for years, with varying progress. And in our experience, librarians are rarely given formal training on the job before becoming managers. We need to find ways to support new managers, helping them to acquire skills to handle the interpersonal, economic, and political challenges. Human Resources departments can provide valuable training in policy and procedures of the organization, but libraries have unique management challenges that may not exist elsewhere on campus. Librarians may be asked to manage faculty, staff, and student workers. They may need to arrange …

In the past several decades, scores of books about mentoring and librarianship have been published. There are academic articles, webinars, and workshops that librarians can use to learn more about why mentoring is important and how to be a good mentor. However, in my own experience, most of these resources explore mentoring from the perspective of the mentor, not the mentee.

Academic liaison roles have seen massive changes over time and grown into an ever-broadening range of duties. What began as subject-focused collection involvement has evolved into a mix of instruction, reference, and various forms of course-embedded services, all while also retaining the earlier focus on subject-specific collection management. This paper outlines current research on academic liaison roles and summarizes the interactive exchanges from the 2018 Charleston Conference Lively Session on academic liaisons presented November 7. Through live polling and discussion, session participants identified key functions and core competencies for liaisons, as well as factors contributing to success or hindrance …

Many academic libraries rely on a student workforce for everyday operations, interacting with patrons, and assistance with larger projects. Training these students for such multifaceted and customer-service-focused positions can be a challenge. This article traces an overhaul of training procedures made during the transition to a centralized, services desk workflow. All aspects of training a large student workforce, from planning and presentation to assessment, are outlined. When the opportunity presented itself and I decided to give it a try, there were some surprises along the way. For example, I hadn't really thought about how the relationships I had with colleagues would shift when my level of authority changed.
