The Library Right There In My Hand: Determining User Needs For Mobile Services At A Medium-Sized Regional University, Paula Barnett-Ellis, Charlcie Pettway Vann
The Southeastern Librarian
While there have been a number of articles written about the need to provide mobile services for users, most have focused on large institutions. The authors, both librarians, wanted to find out how patrons of Houston Cole Library at Jacksonville State University (JSU), a small regional university, are using mobile devices and what mobile services they want or expect from the library. The possibility of finding the answers to these and other questions initiated the authors’ interest in surveying JSU students about their mobile device use. Julius Rosenwald: A Review Of The Literature On His Motivations And Impact In Redefining Library Service In The South, Patrick Roughen
The Southeastern Librarian

It could be said that Rosenwald’s generosity can be explained by his Jewish background; he was born a member of a group for whom discrimination and persecution had long tempered a sympathy for the oppressed. In his adult life, Rosenwald was imbued with the social justice teachings of famous Reform Rabbi Emil Hirsch (1851-1973), who ministered to him for many years at the Chicago Sinai Congregation (Ascoli, 2006). On the other hand, Rosenwald’s white, middle class background fails to explain how he was decades …

The Purdue University Research Repository (PURR, http://purr.purdue.edu) uses HUBzero to provide a free, online research data collaboration platform and data management service platform for the Purdue researcher community. Funding agencies like The National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, have begun requiring that researchers describe in their grant proposals how they will manage and share the data that will be produced in their research. The White House’s Office for Science and Technology Policy has also directed federally funded research agencies with research budgets over 100 million dollars to ensure that funding recipients make their research output free and accessible …

Leadership In Action: Leading, Learning, And Reflecting On A Career In Academic Libraries, Patricia A. Iannuzzi
Leadership In Action: Leading, Learning, And Reflecting On A Career In Academic Libraries, Patricia A. Iannuzzi
Library Faculty Presentations
The library literature is rife with books and articles about leadership, much of it derived or applied from the research external to the library profession. Our professional literature is also rich with surveys about the qualities of leadership. This opening session provides a counterpoint to the theoretical, academic approach to the study of leadership in libraries. Based upon more than 30 years of experience, including positions ranging from library assistant to dean, Patricia Iannuzzi provides a practical approach to leadership roles for academic librarians on campus, in our profession, and within the higher education arena. This will enable attendees to take best practice from the TERMS project and lessons learned in a practical …

Institutional repositories (IRs) host an abundance of unique and valued digital content. The premise of garnering scholarly and local collection materials is to engage them for visibility and accessibility. As an additional tool to assist in the process of creating an infrastructure for reachable content, the WorldCat Digital Collection Gateway tool enables academic libraries to target individual repository collections to minimally harvest the metadata and be visible through WorldCat.org and OAIster. Collection items display their metadata while available full-text deposits from the Gateway create links to expose an IR’s record and the object itself that could include an article or …
