Exploring Data Literacy Via A Librarian-Faculty Learning Community: A Case Study, Theresa G. Burress, Emily Z. Mann, Tina Neville

Faculty learning communities (FLCs) are year-long professional development opportunities available at many higher education institutions in the United States. While the literature reflects some librarian engagement with FLCs, it seems limited primarily to areas of traditional librarian expertise such as information literacy and outreach. This article describes a case study of a librarian-facilitated FLC focused on data literacy, which resulted in the development of a teaching toolkit, library-led data literacy instruction, and ongoing collaborations between librarians and faculty. The FLC structure proved to be a valuable framework that facilitated collaborative learning in topics relevant to both disciplinary faculty and librarians. …

Library and information science literature tells a story of the recent surge in creation the copyright librarian positions in academic libraries from identification of need to construction of job responsibilities and position requirements. Balancing Informed Evaluation With Efficiency: Applying Copyright And Licensing Evaluation To Reserves And Interlibrary Loan, Leetta Schmidt

This article examines steps taken at one academic library to address issues encountered when attempting to create a foundation of copyright knowledge to assist staff in reserves and interlibrary loan. It reviews the development of a copyright policy for the library that specifically addressed interlibrary loan and reserves activities. It also addresses how conducting staff instruction, developing process documentation, and having regular training meetings, enhanced each department’s ability to incorporate the new policy into daily workflows. Finally, it points out new issues encountered when attempting to simplify how copyright and licensed materials are handled.

From Journal Selection To Open Access: Practices Among Academic Librarian Scholars, Tina Neville, Camielle Crampsie

In this study, researchers surveyed academic librarians about their open access publishing practices. This analysis explores approaches to journal selection, awareness of open access options, and self-archiving practices. Fifty percent of the librarians in this study considered free open access when selecting a potential journal for publication, but a journal's fit to the topic and peer review were higher priorities. Findings indicate that, although many librarians publish in open access journals or take advantage of institutional repositories, there are still barriers to publishing in open access journals, including article processing charges, the tenure and promotion culture, and uncertainty around intellectual …

The purpose of this study is to examine the use of ERP and outputs by six decision-makers in one SME manufacturing organization and provide artifacts targeted to improve their pricing decisions. Through elaborated action design research, we collect data to diagnosis decision-makers concerns and identify decision making biases and errors. Using insights and collaboration, we design, implement and evaluate seven artifacts targeted to minimize four biases identified – overconfidence bias, optimistic bias, planning fallacy and representativeness.

The data collected during the diagnosis phase reveals that concerns fell into three primary themes: data, human interfaces, and cognitive bias. The seven combined …

BACKGROUND: Responding to the disparities in accessing and obtaining health information and healthcare among immigrant populations, the present study focused on Asian Americans. Using a sample that reflects Asian Americans' cultural and linguistic diversities, the goal was to explore the typologies of health information source and their predictability to unmet healthcare needs (i.e., the experience of not being able to get needed medical care).

This study evaluates user experiences in the Bethlehem University Library across four categories: Services, Resources, Library Usage, and the Building itself, based on an anonymous survey issued in October 2017. The Library was refurnished in 2016 with the express purpose of creating a facility with the most current practices and equipment, at a level comparable to other modern academic universities, to enhance the learning experience at Bethlehem University. Visitors to public science festivals have a tremendous amount of free choice to decide how to navigate through the festival, as well as when, where, and how long to stop at an exhibit. This study examines how elementary-aged children individually or collaboratively engaged with festival exhibits at a public science festival in St. Petersburg, Florida. Although many exhibit activities are designed to appeal to children, no research has been done with regard to child engagement with one-day, outdoor science festivals, such as this one. A local newspaper in Saint Petersburg, Florida, The Weekly Challenger was established in 1967 with the goal of documenting and sharing information about the African-American community at a time when other local news outlets largely ignored it. Through a special legislative appropriation from the State of Florida, the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library at the University of South Florida Saint Petersburg received funding to preserve, digitize, and sustain the newspaper. In this article, the authors discuss the steps taken to build the repository for the newspaper’s print and electronic archives, including photographs and videotaped interviews with a long-time publisher. This paper is based, in part, on a survey of articles published in four leading leadership Journals (Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, Journal of Leadership Studies, Leadership, and Open Journal of Leadership) to determine how the concepts of Burns and Senge were used in the articles. This study aims to understand the information needs of Korean immigrant mothers in the United States for their high school children’s college preparation. A content analysis was conducted for the messages posted to a “motherhood” forum on the MissyUSA website. In total, 754 posts were analyzed in terms of a child’s grade, college preparation stage, type of post, and topic of post. The study found that there is a range of information needed at different stages in a child’s education. Many of the demonstrated information needs showed similarities to those of other immigrant groups, but there were also community-specific themes, …

For many years, the Temple Terrace Public Library maintained copies of the Temple Terrace Beacon. This local publication, first published in 1931, focused on news and events in the City of Temple Terrace as well as the surrounding University community.
