Tina Neville is the Head of Library Research & Instruction at the Poynter Library. She has attended specialized short courses on digital preservation management and library instruction. She has co-authored several articles for the Journal of Academic Librarianship and RUSQ on support for promotion and tenure in academic libraries, library reference question classification, and evaluating book publishers. In addition, she has co-authored a book on library research skills for undergraduate science students.

This article revisits discussion from “The Florida State Libraries Resource Sharing Initiative: Unity Among a Disparate Group” (Schmidt & Smith, 2012) on the implementation of a new resource sharing program within the Florida State University Libraries called UBorrow. The program and its effects are assessed after 2 years with comparison to the project launch's original predictions.

This article reports on a survey to Mexican, Caribbean, Central American, and South American libraries about interlibrary loan services and activities. It builds on previous studies and reports in an attempt to address a void in current interlibrary lending literature concerning Latin American libraries’ interlibrary lending services.

The USFSP Digital Collections Team at Poynter Library created and manages an institutional repository which provides faculty with a new and professionally beneficial service. These digital portfolios showcase and promote their body of scholarship, on a stable platform and with a permanent URL. The USFSP Digital Archive offers 24/7 open access to the “Faculty Works” collections, provides full-text indexing that is harvested regularly by Google, Google Scholar, and other indexers, and tracks usage to demonstrate the increasing visibility of faculty work to researchers outside of the home institution. Weeding is a common theme in library literature. But, while librarians often use circulation statistics or other data as general guidelines for weeding print collections, few consider the value of actively engaging affected populations during the weeding lifecycle, particularly in the early stages of selecting material for retention. This paper describes a collaborative project between librarians and non-library faculty and staff to identify and retain the materials that would establish a core library collection, increase collection and resource accessibility, and aid in a library’s transformation into a more student-centered space. Based on existing appraisal/selection policies in libraries, archives, museum, social science and science data centers, this paper presents a generic appraisal/selection framework for digital curation. In presenting this framework, the author discusses how archival appraisal theories, methods, and criteria adapt to the general digital curation context.

Evaluating Scholarly Book Publishers—A Case Study In The Field Of Journalism., Tina M. Neville, Deborah Boran Henry

USF St. Petersburg campus Faculty Publications

By adapting multiple metrics used for journal article evaluation and replicating recent publisher metrics, the authors tested methods for evaluating scholarly book publishers. Using monographs published in journalism between 2007 and 2011 as a test case, results indicate these methods may be useful to other scholarly disciplines.
