Challenging Esl Students To Avoid Plagiarism And Properly Summarize And Cite Articles, Sarah J. Hammill

Works of the FIU Libraries

International students have the additional disadvantage of not knowing the conventions, traditions, and values held in academic discourse (Gu & Brooks, 2007). Within American academic …

How Scholars Work: Panning For Gold In Libraries, Judith M. Nixon, Marianne Ryan

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research

How do liberal arts scholars work? For example, where do they get their ideas? When beginning a research project, do they start with a Google search or the library's home page? How and when do scholars utilize libraries and library resources—especially library-funded databases? How has research changed since the advent of the World Wide Web? These are questions that the social science and humanities librarians at Purdue University Libraries have been asking. To begin to find answers, we invited selected faculty members and students to a How Scholars Work series. This article summarizes their comments.

Once the decision was made, one librarian opted to dive into the new system and run a section of an online 3-credit Information Literacy class using the newly adopted technology. Both the librarian – the first instructor on campus to move an entire class into the system – and the students in the class became pioneers in a new pedagogical world. This paper presentation will describe …

The proliferation of legal materials published directly to the Web with no print counterpart poses a new and unprecedented challenge for librarians, archivists, and information professionals concerned about the long-term preservation of legal resources. In response to this preservation challenge, the Georgetown Law Library, in collaboration with the State Law Libraries of Maryland and Virginia, launched The Chesapeake Project in March 2007.
