Zaslavsky observed that the topics of directed cycles in directed graphs and alternating cycles in edge 2-colored graphs have a common generalization in the study of coherent cycles in bidirected graphs. There are classical theorems by Camion, Harary and Moser, Häggkvist and Manoussakis, and Saad which relate strong connectivity and Hamiltonicity in directed "complete" graphs and edge 2-colored "complete" graphs. We prove two analogues to these theorems for bidirected "complete" signed graphs.

Organizations with large facility and infrastructure portfolios have used asset management databases for over ten years to collect and standardize asset condition data. Decision makers use these data to predict asset degradation and expected service life, enabling prioritized maintenance, repair, and renovation actions that reduce asset life-cycle costs and achieve organizational objectives. However, these asset condition forecasts are calculated using standardized, self-correcting distribution models that rely on poorly-fit, continuous functions. This research presents four stepwise asset condition forecast models that utilize historical asset inspection data to improve prediction accuracy: (1) Slope, (2) Weighted Slope, (3) Condition-Intelligent Weighted Slope, and (4) …
A Bayesian Programming Approach To Car-Following Model Calibration And Validation Using Limited Data, Franklin Abodo
A Bayesian Programming Approach To Car-Following Model Calibration And Validation Using Limited Data, Franklin Abodo
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Traffic simulation software is used by transportation researchers and engineers to design and evaluate changes to roadway networks. Underlying these simulators are mathematical models of microscopic driver behavior from which macroscopic measures of flow and congestion can be recovered. Many models are intended to apply to only a subset of possible traffic scenarios and roadway configurations, while others do not have any explicit constraint on their applicability. Work zones on highways are one scenario for which no model invented to date has been shown to accurately reproduce realistic driving behavior. This makes it difficult to optimize for safety and other …

Purpose — Aircraft fail to meet mission capable rate goals due to a lack of supply of aircraft parts in inventory where the aircraft breaks. This triggers an order at the repair location. To maximize mission capable rate, the time from order to delivery needs to be minimized. The purpose of this research is to examine the case of three airfields for the order to delivery time of mission critical aircraft parts for a specific aircraft type. Design/methodology/approach — This research captured data from three information systems to assess the order fulfillment process. The data were analyzed to determine the …
Characterization Of A Family Of Rotationally Symmetric Spherical Quadrangulations, Lowell Abrams, Daniel Slilaty
Characterization Of A Family Of Rotationally Symmetric Spherical Quadrangulations, Lowell Abrams, Daniel Slilaty
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications
A spherical quadrangulation is an embedding of a graph G in the sphere in which each facial boundary walk has length four. Vertices that are not of degree four in G are called curvature vertices. In this paper we classify all spherical quadrangulations with n-fold rotational symmetry (n ≥ 3) that have minimum degree 3 and the least possible number of curvature vertices, and describe all such spherical quadrangulations in terms of nets of quadrilaterals. The description reveals that such rotationally symmetric quadrangulations necessarily also have a pole-exchanging symmetry.

The classical Box-Pierce and Ljung-Box tests for auto-correlation of residuals possess severe deviations from nominal type I error rates. Previous studies have attempted to address this issue by either revising existing tests or designing new techniques. The Adjusted Box-Pierce achieves the best results with respect to attaining type I error rates closer to nominal values. This research paper proposes a further correction to the adjusted Box-Pierce test that possesses near perfect type I error rates. The approach is based on an inflation of the rejection region for all sample sizes and lags calculated via a linear model applied to simulated …
The Biggest Loser: How Tanking In Professional Sports Impacts Fan Perception, Julia Ayres
The Biggest Loser: How Tanking In Professional Sports Impacts Fan Perception, Julia Ayres
Honors Projects in Mathematics
Professional sports teams are adored nationwide for their talents and the pride they bring to their city for their efforts. However, not all teams take this responsibility seriously and will lose on purpose, or tank, to gain a higher draft pick in the future. Although the long-term goals of tanking are to help the organization, many people take issue with athletes not putting in their best efforts in every game. Teams in both the NBA and NFL are guilty of tanking to gain better draft picks but not all have found success in this process. This leads to important questions …

A Monte Carlo Analysis Of Seven Dichotomous Variable Confidence Interval Equations, Morgan Juanita Dubose
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Department of Psychological Sciences Western Kentucky University There are two options to estimate a range of likely values for the population mean of a continuous variable: one for when the population standard deviation is known and another for when the population standard deviation is unknown. There are seven proposed equations to calculate the confidence interval for the population mean of a dichotomous variable: normal approximation interval, Wilson interval, Jeffreys interval, Clopper-Pearson, Agresti-Coull, arcsine transformation, and logit transformation. In this study, I compared the percent effectiveness of each equation using a Monte Carlo analysis and the interval range over a range …

Basic Science Engineering
In this article, we introduce a simple algorithm to generating a new type-II progressive censoring scheme for two samples. It is observed that the proposed algorithm can be applied for any continues probability distribution. Moreover, the description model and necessary assumptions are discussed. In addition, the steps of simple generation algorithm along with programming steps are also constructed on real example. The inference of two Weibull Frechet populations are discussed under the proposed algorithm. Both classical and Bayesian inferential approaches of the distribution parameters are discussed. Furthermore, approximate confidence intervals are constructed based on the asymptotic distribution of the maximum …
