Analysis Of Clusterization Of C70 Molecules In Benzene Solutions Prepared By Various Methods, U. Makhmanov, O. Ismailova, A. Kokhkharov, S. Bakhramov

Bulletin of National University of Uzbekistan: Mathematics and Natural Sciences

Self-assembling features of molecules of C70 in benzene solution prepared in two various ways – equilibrium and non-equilibrium – has been investigated experimentally by method of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. It was demonstrated, that the formation of densely packed monomolecular fullerene aggregates with a diameter of not more than 30 nm in solutions prepared by the equilibrium method (without the use of external mechanical influences on solution). In the case of solutions C70, which were prepared by the non-equilibrium method (stirring of solution of C70 by a mechanical rotator), large quasispherical aggregates of nanoporous structure with …

Automated Species Classification Methods For Passive Acoustic Monitoring Of Beaked Whales, John Lebien Dec 2017

Automated Species Classification Methods For Passive Acoustic Monitoring Of Beaked Whales, John Lebien

University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

The Littoral Acoustic Demonstration Center has collected passive acoustic monitoring data in the northern Gulf of Mexico since 2001. Recordings were made in 2007 near the Deepwater Horizon oil spill that provide a baseline for an extensive study of regional marine mammal populations in response to the disaster. Animal density estimates can be derived from detections of echolocation signals in the acoustic data. Beaked whales are of particular interest as they remain one of the least understood groups of marine mammals, and relatively few abundance estimates exist. Efficient methods for classifying detected echolocation transients are essential for mining long-term passive …

Atomic Scale Fractal Dimensionality In Proteins, Duccio Medini, A. Widom Jan 2011

Atomic Scale Fractal Dimensionality In Proteins, Duccio Medini, A. Widom

Allan Widom

The soft condensed matter of biological organisms exhibits atomic motions whose properties depend strongly on temperature and hydration conditions. Due to the superposition of rapidly fluctuating alternative motions at both very low temperatures (quantum effects) and very high temperatures (classical Brownian motion regime), the dimension of an atomic "path" is in reality different from unity. In the intermediate temperature regime and under environmental conditions which sustain active biological functions, the fractal dimension of the sets upon which atoms reside is an open question. Measured values of the fractal dimension of the sets on which the Hydrogen atoms reside within the …
