Local Vibrational Modes Of Natural Isotopes Of Substitutional Oxygen In Cdte, Enver Tarhan, Anant K. Ramdas

Turkish Journal of Physics

We investigated the localized vibrational modes (LVM) of natural oxygen containing $^{16}$O, $^{17}$O, and $^{18}$O isotopes at a substitutional tellurium site in cadmium telluride using infrared absorption spectroscopy at cryogenic temperatures. The main absorption peak observed at 350 cm$^{-1\, }$was formerly attributed to a fundamental LVM mode ($\nu _{0})$ of oxygen at a tellurium site. The relatively weak absorption peaks observed at 331 cm$^{-1\, }$and 340 cm$^{-1\, }$are assigned as the same $\nu_{0}$ mode of the $^{17}$O and $^{18}$O isotopes, respectively, based on their relative intensities and spectral positions. The spectral positions were confirmed with theoretical calculations using a linear …

Microscopic And Spectroscopic Analysis Of Cadmium Telluride, Jessica Goretty Salazar

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Cadmium telluride (CdTe) remains one of the materials of interest in the fabrication of photovoltaic cells and infrared devices, mainly because of its suitable crystal structure as well as of its small, direct bandgap of 1.5 eV. Since development of such devices requires a high quality and low defect material, the goal of this study is to microscopically and spectroscopically examine not only crystallinity, but also the induced stress in the material due to the effect of substrate orientation. This information is valuable if optimization of sample growth conditions is envisioned. Prior to CdTe deposition by close-spaced sublimation (CSS), Si …

We report electron and hole drift mobilities in thin film polycrystalline CdTe solar cells based on photocarrier time-of-flight measurements. For a deposition process similar to that used for high-efficiency cells, the electron drift mobilities are in the range of 10–100 cm2/Vs, and holes are in the range of 1–10 cm2/Vs. The electron drift mobilities are about a thousand times smaller than those measured in single crystal CdTe with time-of-flight; the hole mobilities are about ten times smaller. Cells were examined before and after a vapor phase treatment with CdCl2; treatment had little effect on …
