Anyonic Superconductivity In A Modified Large-U Hubbard Model, Asim Gangopadhyaya, Prasanta K. Panigrahi

Physics: Faculty Publications and Other Works

A modified large-U Hubbard model at half filling is analyzed by a mean-field approach. Preserving a local U(1) symmetry of the action, the fluctuations about half filling are studied in the spirit of the commensurate-flux-phase condition. The fluctuations then contribute a Chern-Simons term to the tree-level Lagrangian with a coefficient appropriate to that of a half fermion. With the Coulomb repulsion term, we study the low-energy excitations of the model and show the existence of superconductivity in the presence of a four-Fermi interaction term.

Investigation Of Real-Time Optical Scanning Holography, Bradley D. Duncan Jun 1991

Investigation Of Real-Time Optical Scanning Holography, Bradley D. Duncan

Electro-Optics and Photonics Faculty Publications

Real-time holographic recording using an optical heterodyne scanning technique was proposed by Poon in 1985. The first part of this dissertation provides a detailed theoretical treatment of the technique, based on a Gaussian beam analysis. Topics to be addressed include the derivations of the optical transfer function (OTF) and impulse response of the scanning holographic recording system, reconstructed image resolution and magnification, methods of carrier frequency hologram generation and experimental verification of the recording technique based on careful measurements of a hologram corresponding to a simple transmissive slit. Furthermore, computer simulations are presented pertaining to the incoherent nature of the …

A reactiodffusion system of polymers undergoing interchange reactions is studied. The equation that describes the dynamics of the system is similar to the Boltzmann equation for a gas of hard spheres. We consider a one-dimensionsl system in which the average length and the concentrations at the boundaries are fixed. The resulting steady states are obtained analytically and with numerical integration of equations obtained by using a local equilibrium approximation. Monte Carlo simulations of experimentally realizable conditions were performed and compared. The results reveal a nonlinear distribution of molecular concentration and mass. The entropy of the polymer distributions is calculated as …
