The double-spin-polarization observable E for 𝛾 p → p𝛑⁰ has been measured with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at photon beam energies E𝛾 from 0.367 to 2.173 GeV (corresponding to center-of-mass energies from 1.240 to 2.200 GeV) for pion center-of-mass angles, cos θc.m.𝛑⁰, between - 0.86 and 0.82. These new CLAS measurements cover a broader energy range and have smaller uncertainties compared to previous CBELSA data and provide an important independent check on systematics. High-momentum configurations of nucleon pairs at short-distance are probed using measurements of the 12C(e,'p) and 12C (e,e'pN) reactions (where N is either n or p), at high Q2 and 𝒙B > 1.1. The data span a missing-momentum range of 300-1000 MeV/c and are predominantly sensitive to the transition region of the strong nuclear interaction from a tensor to scalar interaction. The data are well reproduced by theoretical calculations using the generalized contact formalism with both chiral and phenomenological nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction models. We report the first measurements of the E beam-target helicity asymmetry for the →γ→n→K0Λ and K0Σ0 channels in the energy range 1.70 ≤ W ≤ 2.34 GeV. The CLAS system at Jefferson Lab uses a circularly polarized photon beam and a target consisting of longitudinally polarized solid molecular hydrogen deuteride with low background contamination for the measurements. The multivariate analysis method boosted decision trees is used to isolate the reactions of interest. Comparisons with predictions from the KaonMAID, SAID, and Bonn-Gatchina models are presented. The exclusive reaction γp → pK+K was studied in the photon energy range 3.0–3.8 GeV and momentum transfer range 0.6 < −t< 1.3 GeV2. Data were collected with the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. In this kinematic range the integrated luminosity was approximately 20 pb−1. The reaction was isolated by detecting the K+ and the proton in CLAS, and reconstructing the K via the missing-mass technique. We report on the first measurement of cross sections for exclusive deeply virtual pion electroproduction off the proton, ep→e′nπ+, above the resonance region at backward pion center-of-mass angles. The φπ⁎-dependent cross sections were measured, from which we extracted three combinations of structure functions of the proton. Our results are compatible with calculations based on nucleon-to-pion transition distribution amplitudes (TDAs). These non-perturbative objects are defined as matrix elements of three-quark-light-cone-operators and characterize partonic correlations with a particular emphasis on baryon charge distribution inside a nucleon. We report on the first measurement of cross sections for exclusive deeply virtual pion electroproduction off the proton, ep → e'nπ+, above the resonance region at backward pion center-of-mass angles. The ϕ∗ π-dependent cross sections were measured, from which we extracted three combinations of structure functions of the proton. Our results are compatible with calculations based on nucleon-to-pion transition distribution amplitudes (TDAs). These non-perturbative objects are defined as matrix elements of threequark-light-cone-operators and characterize partonic correlations with a particular emphasis on baryon charge distribution inside a nucleon.

Beam-target double-spin asymmetries and target single-spin asymmetries were measured for the exclusive π+ electroproduction reaction γp+. The results were obtained from scattering of 6-GeV longitudinally polarized electrons off longitudinally polarized protons using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer at Jefferson Laboratory. The kinematic range covered is 1.1 < W < 3 GeV and 1 < Q2 < 6 GeV2. Results were obtained for about 6000 bins in W, Q2, cos(θ), and φ. Except at forward angles, very large target-spin asymmetries are observed over the entire W region. Reasonable agreement is found with phenomenological fits to previous …

Results are presented for the first measurement of the double-polarization helicity asymmetry E for the ƞ photoproduction reaction ɣp -> ηp. Data were obtained using the FROzen Spin Target (FROST) with the CLAS spectrometer in Hall B at Jefferson Lab, covering a range of center-of-mass energy W from threshold to 2.15 GeV and a large range in center-of-mass polar angle. As an initial application of these data, the results have been incorporated into the Jülich-Bonn model to examine the case for the existence of a narrow N* resonance between 1.66 and 1.70 GeV. Beam-target double-spin asymmetries and target single-spin asymmetries in exclusive π+ and quasiexclusive π- electroproduction were obtained from scattering of 1.6- to 5.7-GeV longitudinally polarized electrons from longitudinally polarized protons (for π+) and deuterons (for π-) using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab. The kinematic range covered is 1.1 < W < 2.6 GeV and 0.05 < Q2 < 5 GeV2, with good angular coverage in the forward hemisphere. Unpolarized and beam-polarized fourfold cross sections (d4σ/dQ2dxBdtdϕ) for the ep → e'p'γ reaction were measured using the CLAS detector and the 5.75-GeV polarized electron beam of the Jefferson Lab accelerator, for 110 (Q2;xB;t) bins over the widest phase space ever explored in the valence-quark region. Several models of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) describe the data well at most of our kinematics. First results from the longitudinally polarized frozen-spin target (FROST) program are reported. The double-polarization observable E, for the reaction ɣp→π+n, has been measured using a circularly polarized tagged-photon beam, with energies from 0.35 to 2.37 GeV. The final-state pions were detected with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer in Hall B at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. These polarization data agree fairly well with previous partial-wave analyses at low photon energies. Over much of the covered energy range, however, significant deviations are observed, particularly in the high-energy region where high-L multipoles contribute. The data have been …

We report the first measurement of the photoproduction cross section of the ϕ meson in its neutral decay mode in the reaction γp→pϕ(KSKL) . The experiment was performed with a tagged photon beam of energy 1.6 ≤ Eγ ≤ 3.6 GeV incident on a liquid hydrogen target of the CLAS spectrometer at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The pϕ final state is identified via reconstruction of KS in the invariant mass of two oppositely charged pions and by requiring the missing particle in the reaction γp→pKSX to be KL. …

We have measured the moment Asin ɸLU corresponding to the polarized electron beam-spin asymmetry in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. Asin ɸLU is a twist-3 quantity providing information about quark-gluon correlations. Data were taken with the CLAS Spectrometer at Jefferson Lab using a 5.498 GeV longitudinally polarized electron beam and an unpolarized liquid hydrogen target. All three pion channels (π+0 and π-) were measured simultaneously over a large range of kinematics within the virtuality range Q2 ≈ 1.0- 4.5 GeV2. Beam asymmetries for the reactions ˠp -> pπ0 and ˠp -> nπ+have been measured with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) and a tagged, linearly polarized photon beam with energies from 1.102-1.862 GeV. A Fourier moment technique for extracting beam asymmetries from experimental data is described. The results reported here possess greater precision and finer energy resolution than previous measurements. Our data for both pion reactions appear to favor the SAID and Bonn-Gatchina scattering analyses over the older Mainz MAID predictions. We have measured the differential cross section for the 𝛾 3He → π+t reaction. This reaction was studied using the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab. Real photons produced with the Hall-B bremsstrahlung tagging system in the energy range from 0.50 to 1.55 GeV were incident on a cryogenic liquid 3He target. The differential cross sections for the 𝛾 3He → π+t reaction were measured as a function of photon-beam energy and pion-scattering angle. We report a measurement of the differential cross section for the γn →π⁻p process from the CLAS detector at Jefferson Laboratory in Hall B for photon energies between 1.0 and 3.5 GeV and pion center-of-mass (c.m.) angles (𝜃 c.m.) between 50° and 115°. We confirm a previous indication of a broad enhancement around a c.m. energy (√ s) of 2.1 GeV at 𝜃c.m. = 90° in the scaled differential cross section s7 dσdt and a rapid falloff in a center-of-mass energy region of about 400 MeV following the enhancement. The light vector mesons (ρ,ω, and ϕ) were produced in deuterium, carbon, titanium, and iron targets in a search for possible in-medium modifications to the properties of the ρ meson at normal nuclear densities and zero temperature. The vector mesons were detected with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) via their decays to e+e−. The rare leptonic decay was chosen to reduce final-state interactions. A combinatorial background was subtracted from the invariant mass spectra using a well-established event-mixing technique. The ρ-meson mass spectrum was extracted after the ω and ϕ signals were removed in a nearly model-independent way. Comparisons …

The beam spin asymmetry (BSA) in the exclusive reaction ep→epπ0 was measured with the CEBAF 5.77 GeV polarized electron beam and Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS). The xB,Q2,t , and ϕ dependences of the π0 BSA are presented in the deep inelastic regime. The asymmetries are fitted with a sinϕ function and their amplitudes are extracted. Overall, they are of the order of 0.04–0.11 and roughly independent of t . This is the signature of a nonzero longitudinal-transverse interference. Photoproduction of the cascade resonances has been investigated in the reactions γp → K + K +(X) and γp → K + K + π −(X). The mass splitting of the ground state (Ξ0) doublet is measured to be 5.4 ± 1.8 MeV/c2, consistent with existing measurements. The differential (total) cross sections for the Ξ have been determined for photon beam energies from 2.75 to 3.85 (4.75) GeV and are consistent with a production mechanism of Y∗→K+Ξ through a t-channel process. Differential cross sections for the reaction 𝛾p→ K*0Σ+ are presented in the photon energy range of 1.7 to 3.0 GeV. The K*0 was detected by its decay products, K+π, in the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility's large acceptance spectrometer (CLAS) detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. These data are the first K*0 photoproduction cross sections ever published over a broad range of angles. Comparison with a theoretical model based on the vector and tensor K-quark couplings shows good agreement with the data, except at forward angles, suggesting that …

We report results for the virtual photon asymmetry A1 on the nucleon from new Jefferson Lab measurements. The experiment, which used the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer and longitudinally polarized proton (15NH3) and deuteron (15ND3) targets, collected data with a longitudinally polarized electron beam at energies between 1.6 GeV and 5.7 GeV. The longitudinal target-spin asymmetry AUL for the exclusive electroproduction of high-energy photons was measured for the first time in e→p→e′pγ. The data have been accumulated at JLab with the CLAS spectrometer using 5.7 GeV electrons and a longitudinally polarized NH3 target. A significant azimuthal angular dependence was observed, resulting from the interference of the deeply virtual Compton scattering and Bethe-Heitler processes. The amplitude of the sinϕ moment is 0.252±0.042stat±0.020sys. Theoretical calculations are in good agreement with the magnitude and the kinematic dependence of the target-spin asymmetry, which is sensitive to the generalized parton distributions …

The cross section for the reaction ep→ e'pπ+π- was measured in the resonance region for 1.4 2 < 1.5 GeV2/c2using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Laboratory. The data show resonant structures not visible in previous experiments. The comparison of our data to a phenomenological prediction using available information on N* and Δ states shows an evident discrepancy. A better description of the data is obtained either by a sizable change of the properties of the P13(1720) resonance or by introducing a new baryon state, not reported in published analyses.

Differential cross sections for γp→ηp have been measured with tagged real photons for incident photon energies from 0.75 to 1.95 GeV. Mesons were identified by missing mass reconstruction using kinematical information for protons scattered in the production process. The data provide the first extensive angular distribution measurements for the process above W = 1.75  GeV. Comparison with preliminary results from a constituent quark model support the suggestion that a third S11 resonance with mass ∼1.8  GeV couples to the ηN channel.

The double spin asymmetry in the ep → e' π+n reaction has been measured for the first time in the resonance region for four-momentum transfer Q2 = 0.35-1.5 GeV2. Data were taken at Jefferson Lab with the CLAS detector using a 2.6 GeV polarized electron beam incident on a polarized solid NH3 target. Comparison with predictions of phenomenological models shows strong sensitivity to resonance contributions. The reaction epe′K+Λ(1520) with Λ(1520)→p′K was studied at electron beam energies of 4.05, 4.25, and 4.46 GeV, using the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The cos θK+, φK+, Q2, and W dependencies of Λ(1520) electroproduction are presented for the kinematic region 0.9 < Q2 < 2.4 GeV2 and 1.95 < W < 2.65 GeV. Also, the Q2 dependence of the Λ(1520) decay angular distribution is presented for the first time. The cosθK+ angular distributions suggest t-channel diagrams dominate the production process.
