Luminescent Coupling In Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells: The Advantages Of Perovskite And Luminescent Coupling In Photovoltaics, Briana Dokken

Multijunction or tandem solar cells are made of multiple semiconductor light absorbing layers. Having multiple absorber layers in a solar cell allows it to absorb a larger range of the solar spectrum. When electrons recombine (relax to a lower energy state) in the top layer of a tandem solar cell, they can emit luminescent photons that are absorbed by the bottom layer of the cell. This process is called luminescent coupling, and it can be used to enhance the performance of photovoltaic cells. Mach's principle is a conjecture that was popular among physicists in the early 1900s, and which still sees occasional interest today. The principle states that large accelerating masses induce a local inertial reference frame around them. This paper introduces the principle and its history, and discusses its influence on later theories, like Maxwellian theories of gravity and general relativity.

Performing Near Field Acoustic Holography Scans For The Purpose Of Finding The Acoustic Impedance Of A Violin, Zamara Tomko

This project aimed to measure the acoustic impedance of the violin so that the violin can be better understood from an acoustic standpoint. Near field acoustic holography scans are to be conducted at the open A string resonance of the violin (440 Hz). Pressure microphones along the back plate of the violin allow pressure and particle velocity to be measured, and with that, the acoustic impedance to be calculated and mapped in 1 cm x 1cm increments. In order to understand the nature of colloidal fluids, we wanted to visualize a 3D representation of their thermodynamic distribution. Colloidal fluids are fluids that consist of two parts: colloidal particles and a dispensing medium. Some examples include toothpaste, mayonnaise, plaster, and muddy water. We could also think about colloidal fluids simply as a mixture of two or more parts. In this poster, we used the hard-sphere system to represent the structure of colloidal fluids in a 3D graph using Mathematica (MMA). This paper presents a 2T thermodynamic cycle operating around the critical locus of ethylene. The cycle converts heat energy to work at a rate greater than the Carnot cycle. This energy conversion rate challenges the use of Carnot's thermodynamic efficiency as a foundation for the second Jaw of thermodynamics. The paper discusses the historical development of classical theory and the second law's foundation in logic.

Arthur Holly Compton, as a result of his own research and confidence in the validity of classical electrodynamics, was convinced in 1921 that homogeneous x-rays and gamma rays could be affected in only two possible ways when passing through matter: either they gave rise to "truly scattered" radiation of the same wavelength as that of the incident rays, or they excited "fluorescent" radiation of a longer wavelength. As a general physical theory, the Reciprocal System of D.B. Larson covers all physical fields, including atomic physics . Inasmuch as all of the conclusions reached in the theoretical development are derived entirely by deduction from the basic postulates of this system, the conclusions provide information that is completely independent of observation. The theoretical development indicates that the Mosely atomic number mathematical formula is quite right, and the Rutherford-Bohr-Mosely nuclear atom physical interpretation of atomic number is seriously wrong. This paper describes a project in which students worked in close cooperation with both the physics department of Macalester College and the gage block laboratory of the Continental Machine Company, manufacturers of ,precision gage blocks. Brief descriptions, including drawings, are given of both the interferometer and the constant temperature laboratory in which all measurements were taken. This constant temperature laboratory is set with precision at those two temperatures between which the average coefficient of linear expansion of a gage block is to be determined.
